Re: Which motor is better?

Carl, being in the US, 120v is not an issue.? I was more thinking that if I found a Unimat(or other small tool) with a higher voltage motor, I could then easily run it.??

Re: Which motor is better?

It can also step down 220 - 110

Re: DRO

And how would a counterweight be handled?? With an overarm bracket attached to a base for the machine?? Being silly, a pulley from the ceiling and a small sandbag weight?? Maybe a spring?is the easiest, although?we always think that we can improve things(and at times we do).

Re: Which motor is better?

I believe they are about equal.? THe best motor offered was the U-100 which is a continuous duty motor none of this 80% duty cycle stuff.? Not sure but it may be possible to put ball bearings on either one instead of the sintered bronze aka oilite bushings

Re: Threading Attachment?

Addition to the last message.? The do it yourself threading attachment file is in the Unimat 3 group file section, listed under Other Files,? as Threading Attachment Made on the Unimat 3. Happy Machining !

Re: Threading Attachment?

I have seen plans for making a geared threading setup for the U3 from scratch and also plans for adapting a Sherline threading setup to the Unimat 3.? I just looked at the Unimat 3 files from the Unimat 3 group on groups io and found the Sherline to Unimat 3 conversion.? I have not taken the time yet to seek out the build it yourself threading set.? The only thing I remember about it was you cut your own gears and they were quite large, probably module 1.? Happy machining!

Threading Attachment?

Is a geared leadscrew threading attachment available for the Unimat 3. ?I imagine one could be built if it is not redilly available.

Download files in one go

I can¡¯t say as I never tried to do that. I¡¯d bet one or more members can definitively answer your question though. There are a lot of images so i suspect the full set would be quite large to download.

Re: New unimat member-circular saw arbor

Thanks for that. I didn't know there was a files section. Very useful. Is there a way to download all of the files in one go? So I can read them at my leisure.?

Which motor is better?

Guys I was wondering is there much difference between motors? In particular which is best between the common U90 and the later 7750. I have a choice, Both motors are 240v versions.?

Hi

Couldn't you rig up a counter-weight system to lift the head. It would be cheap, easy to make, easy to adjust and sensitive as you want.

I'm still looking for a quill return spring, so would appreciate any offers, but noting US offers carried an absurd import taffif! Thanks, Leslie

Hi guys,?

I like the counterweight concept. Brain is now in gear.?

Hi John,

I did something similar to your vertical dial indicator attachment. I had a spare vertical milling column so I tapped a single hole on the top end and use that to hold a dial indicator for vertical measurements. I have been using it for years.

Re: DRO

Thanks.? I agree that a hole in a column works.? Please note however: the vertical indicator arrangement that I made uses no holes or modifications to the Unimat.? The indicator holder is on a sliding shaft collar, so that you can move it up and down to match the head position. The bar across the motor mount uses tiny clamps, but no holes.
At one time, "hkoesnadi", made a Unimat dial indicator holder that clamped across the bed with 2 wingnuts.? I can use a simple 2" travel dial indicator along the bed.? Digital long indicators seem expensive.??
The method of using a simple long digital stick gives the most range.? However, I have a hard time coming up with an easy mounting arrangement and no "slop".

Ebay hkoesnady QC Tool Post

That guy ships immediately. I ordered this on Friday aft I think it was, right after seeing it in a posting here. I got it today.

All the parts are cleanly and sharply machined, threads are clean and smooth, and the tops of the bit grooves level right even with the point of a dead center in the spindle.

As a railroad equipment modeler and fairly infrequent user of my Unimat this tool post set seems like a good value addition to my tooling. Seven well machined blocks of aluminum for $100, under $15 per piece.
