Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

If anyone gets thenselves to Home Depot, they still have the dark silver hammered spray cans on sale.

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

What are your thoughts on these two, both obtainable off the shelf in the UK, I am thinking they could be mixed with a little silver/grey to lighten if required.

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

Hammered Grey was a option on the Unimats and was listed in some of the parts lists. I have a red badged SL headstock that is in the Hammered grey. The Hammered grey looks like a dark silver.

I¡¯ve moved beyond the unobtainable green. ?I chose Silver Hammered. ?If the green ever shows up, I will stick a can or two in stock for a future rebuild.

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

I don't know if anyone has previously mentioned a Youtube video from? an Italian company, Astra Vernici Srl, showing how to apply their version of hammertone paint, but here is the link if you are interested -?. One thing I found interesting is the way they "spritz" on the final coat to create the mottled look. They reduce the air pressure to the spray gun until it only spits out droplets of material and not a fine spray. Do you think that would work when spraying silicone on a wet final coat?

Re: Cast Iron DB200 Headstock Riser

Thank You all for the information. Since This was My first post it took some time to be approved. When I read it and found out about the one for sale it had some bids on it already. Does anybody know if it was first offered for Buy It Now, if so what that price may have been? I looks like a good price for now but may change by Monday.?

Re: Mert Baker¡¯s Unimat Theading Method

I keep a printout of Mert¡¯s method in the same sleeve as my Unimat speed chart. I had some success with it as a Unimat beginner trying to make an adapter. I had contacted Mert when he mentioned the method in the group and emailed me the info. Thanks for the file link, Carl ??. Rest well Mert, and thank you!

?Pat, it is not just the color, it is the texture that has to be reproduced.

So I actually found and purchased two cans of the Rosemary Hammered finish at my local ACE.? ?So any body shop or auto paint store should be able to mix any color into a can of hammered say white, or clear base.? Heck they may even be able to mix it from scratch.? ? Based on all of the automotive colors a match should be a no brainer.

pat?

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

I would not use the Behr hammered at all.? The cratered pin hole appearance may be incurable.? Anyway, I only find spray cans on the HD site, not quarts, and has no green color.
I think that you may need a yellow in this proposed hammered green and silver mix.? What can be used for yellow?? Is this the magic formula that no one knows?
I reviewed the paint data sheet.? I am not seeing any particular hazardous "chemicals".? The solvent appears to be mostly naphtha.? HD has this as an off the shelf stock item.? You will need this as your thinner for spraying.

Re: Mert Baker¡¯s Unimat Theading Method

Thanks, i didn't think about that!
Will try it later

Re: Cast Iron DB200 Headstock Riser

That is the one for the cast iron models and that is a good price.

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

?The home depot Behr paint look more like pin holes then the "fish eye" Hammered paint. They used silicone and xylene to cause a Fish Eye crater in the OEM paint. Green is just yellow and blue mixed together. The 1 quart cans have a Dark Green that is too dark and too green. I would be tempted to buying the ! quart can of their silver and slowing adding the dark green to it. Mix up a baby food jar amount and keep track of the ratios tried. It is not just the color, but also the texture that you are trying to match. By starting out with real hammered paint, at least you have the correct texture. Here is the MDS on it. A lot of those chemicals are not being used anywhere outside a industrial use.

Many of the paints in these discussions are not in the US.
I have searched here and I am finding only Rustoleum and Kryon in hammered for US.? The only can is Rustoleum.? There is a Behr, Home Depot, hammered, but it seems to make a pitted finish.? So I must repeat myself.? There is no available color tint mix formula for Unimat green that anyone is able to tell me.
I have attached a photo of 2 Unimats with color samples of Benjamin Moore house paint.? I think that the 2 in middle, 482 & 593, are the closest color tone.? If anyone can ever find a way to make a hammered blend, at least these will indicate what goes in.? You can get the actual samples at the hardware store.? Also, if you search Benjamin Moore 482, the color will come up on your screen.??
Home Depot still has some hammered silver cans on sale.

Re: Mert Baker¡¯s Unimat Theading Method

Nice set up, I would try using a bolt instead of threaded rod.? The jaws would have a better grip on the hex head and they make them long as you need with plenty of threads.

I made a setup to try.

It workt for the collet chuck that sits here on te unimat with a M10 - 1.5 thread in the 3-chuck.
But M6 - 1.0 thread was not a succes, not enough grip so it slips.

Subject: [Unimat] Cast Iron DB200 Headstock Riser

Hello, This is my first post. I have an older cast iron DB 200 Lathe and want to raise the headstock for turning larger diameter work, also to allow more reach when used as a vertical mill. After spending some time browsing through the Forum I found some information that states a Two Hole Clamping Bolt and Spacer was offered some time after original production started. The Part Number was DB 1310. I have searched around but cannot seem to locate one for sale at this time. My question is does anyone have drawings or dimensions to make one from scratch? It looks like the through holes are tapered to allow tension when tightened by the screw. There is a drawing for this screw and shows an included angle of 25.4 deg. Even if I were going to make one, that internal angle is not standard and cannot figure out at this point how to bore it. Possibly a custom made taper reamer? The spacer is pretty straight forward and I think a later alloy one would work and they seem to be more avalible, or just make one. Thank You,Frank
