Re: 290 Tooth Gear
Hi, Living in the UK i do not have ready access to that publication ! Perhaps a scan and upload to the files section is in order or e-mail me the pdf direct if you prefer. Would be nice to have. Also generally is there an archive of Home Shop Machinist magazines available on pdf anywhere ?

As an afterthought, all the engraving on the Quorn tool and cutter grinder shown on my page was done with this dividing head.

Re: 290 Tooth Gear
Hello, Carl
Some years ago Ted Hansen published a plan in Home Shop Machinist magazine to build a worm dividing head to fit the 7X12 minilathe. I built it to his specs and it works beautifully. As designed it allows up to 360 degree divisions. By adding more divisions plates it is possible to achieve many more hole circles. This plan can be easily adapted to the Unimat. It is worth the effort and time to read the article series. The forum members here could benefit from this. |
Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
First, thank you to Kit Maira regarding Home Depot reduced prices on a hammered silver and gray.? I went to the South Plainfield NJ store and bought one of each.
Now, as far as matching somehing like the common Unimat green.? We universally seem to have an idea of the "good paint shop" that will make this great paint for us.? Rustoleum has hammered Verde Green, which is unobtainable for me.? There is, as was pointed out, Rustoleum hammered silver in cans - $23 at HD.? Has anyone here actually ever had this tinted to match Unimat?? Or is it this a nice hopeful concept?? ?Home Depot has a tint of phthalo green which they can put in.? Look up this color online.? It does not match Unimat.? So what should be done?? Do we need phthalo and something else - yellow?? Blue? I feel that we take this subject of paint and are jerking around forever and not coming to any measurable conclusion.? Is each of us to buy this hammered silver and put in some unknown other colors?? And we do not even know if this works? |
Re: Emcomat and Maximat
I've seen 3 Maximats in the SF bay area over the years, but the prices have been crazy, kind of like Levin lathes (the larger ones). -Dave

You might want to add this link in one of the Links tables in Databases. Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
The hammered paint is also available in 1quart cans. Try mixing the silver with the deep green or take a can into the good paint shop and have them try tinting the color.

Yeah I agree, Rustoleum Verde Green might¡¯s well change its name to ¡®Unobtainable¡¯ Hammered Paint. ? I might do some testing following up some leads I¡¯ve seen on one of my Hot Rod forums where they lightly mist a fresh wet paint with a silicone spray with decent results. ? Worth a bit of testing.? So it you want to use hammered, the silver and gray are the closest to the color used on some Unimats. --

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
Hi John, I know for sure that the paint you require can be purchased in the peruvian andes from a local paint shop. However they do not ship to the USA. Also its costs 3 baby lamas and an incan poncho in exchange for just one can ! Let me know if you need the address as you will have to fly there to collect in person :D

Re: What is the Best Unimat ? and WHY !
Having both a basic Cowells and 2 Sherlines, I agree.? If you are willing to spend, you can purchase a 3C collet head for Sherline.? You can put 1/2" through the head.? However, on average, Cowells lathes sell in the UK for prices higher than Unimat.? Cowells are not often for sale in the US.? So for US, we are back to Sherline.? No comment about Sherline availibility outside US.
