Re: Grease or oil or other? Advice please...
For general surface oiling on lathes and milling machines, I use Quaker State non-detergent 40 and 50 weight motor oil.? Why?? A man down the street had an antique car.? He moved? He had a lot of

Re: Grease or oil or other? Advice please...
For tapping you can use almost anything, 3in1, wd40, esso nuto or whatever. I use CT90 cutting fluid but it doesn't really matter in my experience. Cutting fluid for use on the lathe on the other hand

Re: Grease or oil or other? Advice please...
Hello Peter I would advise against 3 in 1 oil. I used it a lot for slideways etc but I found a problem with it drying after a few months, this would make the oil sticky and prevent parts sliding

Re: Grease or oil or other? Advice please...

Re: Grease or oil or other? Advice please...
Good evening Peter, Welcome to the forum from another Brit. I use an SL on a daily basis. I don't get too hung-up on specific types of oil or grease. For bearings and the like I use an automotive

Re: ISO Steady rest
Thank you, that is a good idea as well, but if I had the time to do that I would just make one. I will have to just bite the bullet and pay more than I think it is worth to get one.

True, however I also am restoring a 1908 Victorian house. And people are bringing me clocks. So I don¡¯t really have the time.
