Re: DB/SL optimum power?

Cutting a key slot into the Unimat's relatively thin spindle wall
strikes me as a bad idea. Besides, with round belts the belt will slip
in the pulley before the pulley slips on the spindle.

Just fantastic work. ?Beautiful to just look at. ?I had to make a similar dovetail for a tool holder I needed for my Maximat but I used a shaper that I own. ?Don’t see those around shops much any more.

Re: Unimat DB/SL cross slide disassembly…

Find a 5/16" or 8mm bottle brush. Nylon bristles will be easier on the alloy parts. If you're in the US, you can find this set at Harbor Freight,??and the 5/16" brush is about perfect. A bit of rubbing alcohol or a shot of WD-40 or similar will get any gunk out of the threads.?

If you have one of the iron-framed tools, a .32 caliber gun cleaning brush would work well, but I'd not use it on the alloy parts.?

My? Sherline lathe works with metric collets as long as I use the metric sized collet sleeve, but the Sherline collets will not thread onto my Boley drawbar.? The threads are a bit larger in diameter than the metric ones.

For me it is not clear how long the Sherline drawbar is.
Also the thread is not metric like the collets I bought.

Yes to your last question, anyway. :) 1mm pitch is 25.4tpi. I'd have to dig out a copy of Machinery's Handbook or other reference to calculate it.?
