<roy@...> writes If you've been running UI-View then you've been running APRS. UI-View is an implementation of APRS. To find out more about APRS, take a look at the draft APRS Protocol Specification: 73 Ian, G3NRW Technical Editor, APRS Protocol Specification -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | APRS on 144.800 [IO91SX] ~55km/35 miles NNW of London | | email: g3nrw@... | | | | APRS PROTOCOL SPEC: +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ |

<roy@...> writes From: "Roy Arnold" <roy@...>Hi Roy. The *system* is called APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System). There are several *implementations* of the system: Program Platform ========== ========= UI-View Win 95/98 WinAPRS Win 95/98 MacAPRS MAC pocketAPRS Palm Xastir Linux All of these *implementations* of APRS conform (more-or-less) to the APRS Protocol Specification. Thus (in theory) anyone using UI-View should be able to understand anyone using WinAPRS or MacAPRS or ... etc. UI-View is by far the most popular implementation of APRS here in the UK, and is rapidly gaining acceptance in the United States as well (WinAPRS is the most popular Windows version in the USA today, but it has an awful user interface. Also, WinAPRS is crippled until you pay the $50 registration fee, whereas UI-View is fully functional even if you don't pay the 10 ($16) registration fee -- with UI-View now on the scene, the days of WinAPRS are surely numbered). 73 Ian, G3NRW Technical Editor, APRS Protocol Specification -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | APRS on 144.800 [IO91SX] ~55km/35 miles NNW of London | | email: g3nrw@... | | | | APRS PROTOCOL SPEC: +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ |
