Hi Everyone
A query from Down Under we in Brisbane and South East Queensland are just
starting our APRS network.
There has for some time been a few here using and experimenting with APRS
but due to lack of interest by others they themselves have gone into hiding.
We are hoping not only to getting them out of hiding but also to encourage
others to join us in this, to us, a new mode of this wonderful hobby we all
enjoy so much.
From time to time as we progress you may hear from us not only informing you
of our progress but like tonight with a query or two that your answers will
help us improve our APRS network. The south east corner of our state covers
an area of around 100,000 square kilometres of this most of the population
of this area lives along or adjacent to the eastern coast line, this area is
I guess only about 10% of the total area of our large state. Should we
successfully establish a network here I envisage other areas will follow all
linked via gateways in each area. A dream but some do come true and as in
the past with the start of other projects I have been involved with this one
will.
Guess my learning curve is right at the start. At present we have a Gateway
VK4GO on our Gold Coast, a Digi VK4DMI-3 around 2000 ft high at Ocean View
on the far northern side of Brisbane, over looking Brisbane and the Sunshine
Coast to the north. VK4DMI-3 is around 110 Kms to the north from VK4GO
almost right in the middle and on the southern of the city is VK4BBS another
Digi.
Considering all three stations can hear each other and from listening
apparently getting themselves in a loop and from what I heard today really
tying things up.
Given the above and presuming we would have mobiles, with APRS, passing
through this area unaware of the callsigns of the gateway and digis, also
that the Gateway VK4GO is connected to the net and relaying information from
there at the same time, how would you suggest that we setup the Gateway and
Digi Unprotos etc. Please consider that the all would have to pass any
mobile traffic on to others that they heard.
Would appreciate your suggestions for the unprotos that would be setup in
the mobiles mentioned above.
