DF supprting within UIVIEW possible?

Dear Roger,

We are a hamradio group inside PA.

We run a RDF project and like to ask if it is possible
for you to give support to our DF dataformat.

UIVIEW will display the DF bearings on the map.

We also have a solution to use one com together with
GPS+MODEM att.
RDF solve this problem with help of a small interface.

Hope to here from you soon,

Hi Roger,
Nice catch! I may very well have an "incompatible" version of the
.DLL. I installed from the Windows98 SR2 CD-ROM.

Doing a search for DDEML.DLL, I find it in the /windows/system folder.
It is version 4.10.1998 with a date of 23April99 and file size of 31.4
kb.
That's the correct version. The problem of DDE not working can occur
when you get the DLL from the wrong version of Windows, but you've got
the correct one for Win98 SR2.

Having looked at it again, I don't think the problem has anything to do
with DDE. I would guess that Andy has a "catch all" error message in the
program initialisation, which assumes that a DDE error is the only thing
that can go wrong. For instance, if you run UI-Path from somewhere other
than the UI-View directory, you get that message. I would suggest that
Andy changes the message box so, in VB terminology, it displays
"Error(Err)". that way it will be possible to find out the real nature
of the error.

Hi All,

Although I am a beginner to UI-View/APRS, I'm definitely not new to Packet!

I have a Kantronics KPC-9612 and have set it up to beacon GPS information,
however the packets it sends are not recognised by UI-VIEW.

WinPack displays the following on receipt of the packet:

G1HUL>CQ:
$GPGGA,114745,5241.111,N,00116.268,W,1,00,2.0,181.7,M,48.5,M,,*5F
Set "MCOM ON" on the TNC you are using with UI-View/WinPack. UI-View
works differently to most other APRS software, in that it applies a top
level filter and discards all frames that aren't UI frames. Unless MCOM
is ON, it can't tell the frame type.

(Setting MCOM ON is mentioned in the "Comms Setup" section of the help.)

Re: Beginner problems!

Jim, this may not have displayed because it is an invalid plot.

G1HUL>CQ:
$GPGGA,114745,5241.111,N,00116.268,W,1,00,2.0,181.7,M,48.5,M,,*5F
......................................~
........................................~~

The "1" after the "W" represents a "good plot", but the "00" immediately
following says that the plot was derived from zero satellites.

To plot the position, you need the "good plot" =1 and a non-zero number
of satellites.

Hi Maurice

The output is in miles not Km I could change it to be either if so wished

Could you send me a log file of some local traffic and I will investigate
the problem for you.

Also, no mather which callsign I click on if I choose 'would you like to

Does that include your own?

UI-path problem.

"Maurice Andries" <[email protected]

Hi,

I use UI-view 2.16beta with AGWPE 2000 (latest version)

I'm also running UI-path 1.6 and have the following problems:
The distance to the other stations is not correct
|ON4BAM|0,0|Heard Direct|5101.58N|00405.82E|0,0|2||
this seems correct I'm 0Km from myself :-)

|ON1AWB|1635,0|Heard Direct|5112.28N|00427.23E|1635,0|5||
The distance (according to UI-view is 31,9 Km not 1635)

|ON4BRC|1647,0|Heard Direct|5110.70N|00420.80E|1323,8|6||
Distance is 24,3 Km not 1323,8

Also, no mather which callsign I click on if I choose 'would you like to see
the map' I always get the error 'Not enough data for map' even if I had UI-

Any ideas?

I have a Kantronics KPC-9612 and have set it up to beacon

recognised by UI-VIEW.

Hi Jim,
In almost every case, such problems have been solved by performing
either:
RESTORE D (which restores your TNC to factory default
settings...including the need to re-enter your MYCALL)
-or-
performing a hardware reset (there's jumper inside your KPC for this)

After doing this, try launching UI-View again.

Yes, this sounds a little strange, but most times, folks with some
packet experience such as yourself have changed TNC parameters in the
past. Some of them may be "getting in the way" now. The easiest thing
to do is "reboot" the TNC and try again.

"If it does not compute, you must reboot". :o)

In the not too distant future I think the D7+GPS+single port laptop system
will work fine, it just needs a little work for the next beta.

Of course, this doesn't get over the original problem if you don't have a
D7.

Re: Use of single port laptops

A fudge - is to have the GPS connected to a TNC (MYCALL-7) and low power txrx
running into a helical ant (or even dummy load). This TNC in GPS mode beacons
your location. This part of the package could easily be made very portable.

Then have a second TNC with another radio, and external antenna acting
as a digipeater - to which you connect the PC and UIVIEW. Uiview will not
know where you are, but if you 'track' the icon coming from the low power
tx you will get everything on screen and still be able to send and
receive messages?

To try and avoid a possible red herring - Could there be some confusion
here between UI-Path and UI-MH? That INI file sounds very much like the
one you needed to create for the late G8PMT's UI-MH add-on.

It's just possible that DDE doesn't work on Ev's PC. I've only ever seen
it happen a couple of times, as a result of a wrong version of DDEML.DLL

Hi,

For those using host software under UI-View, BPQ 32 bit software is
available from the following site

BPQ32 is for use with 32 bit programs. You can't use it with either
UI-View or WinPack, because they are 16 bit programs.

I could convert UI-View to 32 bit, but that would have to mean no more
development of the 16 bit version, which would adversely affect some
users.

[snip]

There's no problem with handling two data streams on one COM port, *if*
the streams are properly identified. In the case of the method used with
DOS APRS, the data streams aren't identified at all. Any latency in the
program seeing the data from the COM port can result in corruption. That
is a much bigger problem for a Windows app running in a multitasking
environment than it is for a DOS program.
And someone is now probably going to tell me that WinAPRS does it! ;-)

So, I expect the real answer is that if users of WinAPRS are prepared to
accept a loss of some data in order to share the COM port, then I should
make the same thing possible in UI-View. It can't be made to work with
AGWPE or BPQ, because the port is entirely controlled by the host mode
software, not by UI-View, but it should work with TNCs in KISS mode and
terminal mode.

Does anyone know where I can get the PacComm cable in the UK?

UI-Path should and does! work without a ini file if run from the \ui-view
directory.

If still no joy mail us back and I will switch the error checking off at the
start and see if it works on your system (Last resort!) assuming the error
is generetaed by some eroneous error.

Hi,

For those using host software under UI-View, BPQ 32 bit software is

I haven't had the chance to try it out , so would welcome any comments as
there isn't any help or readme.txt files. I don't know how to install it and

Hi all

Can someone tell me how to get UIVIEW to ping other stations,

I can sometimes ping stations if I can hear them direct, but I have had no look
using a reverse digi path. I just get the message that the ping has failed.

As far as I can see the stations are using various versions of UIVIEW, so I
can't see where the problem is.
There probably isn't a problem. The chance of a ping getting through and
the ack getting back is inversely proportional to the number of digis in
the route. Such is the nature of an unconnected network. Also, some
links will be effectively unidirectional - digi 'A' can hear 'B' but 'B'
can't hear 'A'. This happens because of performance differences in the
equipment being used.
