We are at our membership limit! PLEASE READ
Folks, we are near our membership limit of 100 again. Please consider if you are really using this group actively, just browsing or done with it. If you are using it actively then that is great. If not please consider making room by unsubscribing to allow another person to join who is seeking help or advice about the Wolf transceiver. In the message section there are directions on how to unsubscribe. Thank you for your kind consideration. Pete WK8S

Firmware Upgrade Procedure
2
As many have discovered there YouTube video is gone that showed how to do Wolf firmware upgrades. One important point: DO THE STM32 FILE FIRST!! THEN THE FPGA FILE. Not every STM32 firmware update requires updating the FPGA. You will see a onscreen error if an updated FPGA firmware is required. You can still continue and use the updated STM32 firmware but you will get the error code again. If you don't want to learn how to do an FPGA update you can just go back to the previous STM32 firmware level. The URLs below are for github and dropbox to find Wolf Firmwares https://github.com/XGudron/UA3REO-DDC-Transceiver https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jrs38c2iwtxk6c1/AACUw9yrOuv3P8LjwSxlcpqIa?dl=0 Pete WK8S

How to Replace the Coin Cell Battery in a Wolf RS-998 100W Radio
Hello everyone, I have just finished replacing the battery in my 100W Wolf after getting a red screen warning to REPLACE BATTERY. It's not hard but thought I'd document it for you all. Since this a free groups.io we don't have a FILES section so I attached my PDF procedure to this posting. Please download it for when it's your turn to do this. Pete WK8S

To reload DEFAULT settings:
To reload default settings (factory settings): With power OFF press and hold F1 and F8 then POWER ON radio you should see "load default setting" and "load default calibrations". NOTE: All settings will be return to factory defaults. This includes calibrations for SWR and POWER OUT. The normal calibration menu is an automatic process for both SWR and POWER called AUTO CALIBRATION. I recommend going through it a couple of times. When I first received my radio I did not get the full 20 watts I expected. After a couple of Auto Calibrations I got the proper power out. It is possible to re-calibrate manually BUT with so little information on the procedure I do not recommend you do it at this time. However, you can enter this CALIBRATION menu by pressing F8 then press and hold F8 again until the menu appears again at the bottom of the screen. Please only make changes if you feel comfortable doing so but be sure to record the original setting FIRST! Pete WK8S

How to change the displayed callsign
First Tip: To change the display callsign long press the displayed callsign. If you press exactly on the callsign it should take you to the CALLSIGN: page where you can press the < key to erase the current callsign. Type in your callsign and press the <= key. That's it. Press the F8 key to exit back the normal radio display Pete WK8S

Using Headphones - Tip
2
Very slow to learn this radio without much guidance. By default the speakers do not mute when plugging in headphones. Pressing the MUTE button mutes all sound. To mute the speakers but keep the headphone audio Press & Hold the MUTE button on the display for a second or so. A second press of the MUTE button will silence both speakers and phones. A third press will unmute the speakers and headphone. Hope this helps. Pete WK8S

Multi Knob/Switch on 998
4
Here's a question for the group: What determines the choices when you push the MULTI button? Normally I see WPM, LPF and FASTSTEP. All good choices to always have there. But somehow I've now got MEMORY CHANNELS and I don't want it. So how do you add or remove a control from the list under MULTI push button? Pete WK8S

Memories
I just started playing with my Zastone/Wolf radio. So far, very impressed, although all the menus are a little intimidating! What I have not been able to find (or determine if the radio can do it) is how to set and recall memories.

Wiring a footswitch and desk mic to ZT7500?
2
Anyone know the correct wiring for the line-in and the mic front panel connectors? I looked at the schematics of the Russian Wolf version. Mic interface is fairly simple tip/ring/sleeve port if these are correct. I decided to use a stereo jack to female RCA adapter and plugged into the front panel mic port. PTT appears to be on the (sleeve and ring) of the stereo jack and the audio in is the (tip and ring) of the jack. Transmit PTT worked. Transmit audio has what sounds like RF distortion. Running version 11 FGPA version 10

Bricked RS-998
21
Tried upgrading the FPGA to version 7, as this came from RECENT with 6.8 firmware and FPGA. The file was identified from the TF reader, loaded and verified, and the unit is no longer displaying or working. I get a light on the microphone connector, and a dull glow on the screen. Tried the F1/F8 at on, without luck. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. The STM32IDE was not working for me, as it didn't recognize the USB. The computer identified the Wolf, even in this state. 73, George KF5WFA

And if anyone wants to contribute, let me know; I'll add you as a contributor to the Github repo. @Pete WK8S, I took the liberty to link your firmware update procedure, hope it's OK ?: https://github.com/fredzo/UA3REO-DDC-Transceiver/wiki/Updating-Firmware Best, Frederic - F4JRX.

How Do WE Unsubscribe?
2
Hi Pete, I'm one who really wanted to love the radio and own one. But I already own too many other radios and with all the issues have decided not to go ahead with the purchase. Maybe you should explain how to unsubscribe. I looked and only saw an option to delete my account I wasn't sure if that was the right way to go. In any case you can take me off the group. Best wishes for the new year! and a Merry Christmas to all. D E.Plummer, V31kc.

Please READ - Non Active Members may be removed
Folks we are out of free membership slots! groups.io has 100 member limit for "no charge" groups. I do not want to pay for a larger membership nor go through the time and effort to canvas users for money "upgrade" to a paid group. Therefore I am asking all members who don't actively use this group or own a Wolf to consider to voluntarily leave the group to make room for others who need help or are willing and able offer help and advice. Not to sound skeptical but I wonder how many group members actually own a Wolf transceiver. If no one leaves I will review all memberships for activity (postings) as I know a majority never post nor receive emails from the group. I understand members may join to help decide to buy a Wolf on not. However, this becomes a problem when these members never decide. New Wolf owners may not be able to join due to no open slots. I also know we sometimes don't use a group for a while and forget about our memberships. So please take a moment and review your groups.io membership and if you’re not actively using it, receiving emails from it or making postings consider leaving the group. You are invited to return should your need arise in the future . To LEAVE a groups.io group go HOME - SUBSCRIPTIONS - SETTINGS- Scroll to bottom of page and look at right to find LEAVE button Thank you for you consideration, Pete WK8S
