What Special had the excellent article on Operation Martlet?

I'm trying to find it.? I'm sure I have it, but I can't seem to find it.

--Tom

Nevermind, found it, it's a pintsize Campaign

Anyone have a suggestion for where I can find a list of the Germans in Martlet??? Most sources are British, and list the British in detail, but other then Panzer Lehr and 12th SS, no details about who was there.?

--Tom

I presume you're looking for more than appears in the Pint Sized Campaign??

I have the boardgame of the battle. It's called Operation Dauntless. I don¡¯t know how accurate it is but I'd be happy to summarise the German forces if it helps.

Kind regards
Andrew Holmes

Wait, you started this.? Where's the Pint-Sized Campaign?

As Andrew has noted there is a board game from 2015 designed Mark Mokszycki and published by GMT Games on Operation Dauntless/Martlet. One of the other lads at the old club had the game and talked about it when we were playing the CoC campaign. I¡¯ve just looked it up.

This game covers company sized actions between elements of the 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitler Youth) and Panzer Lehr and the British 49th Infantry Division (The Polar Bears) near Caen during Operation Martlet/Dauntless.

I just checked the reference book of the game and it lists, in addition to 12th SS and Pz Lehr:

Elements of 21st Panzer, specifically elements of I and II battalions, 192nd Pz Grenadier Regt

Elements of 101 SS Heavy Pz Bn, 1st, 2nd and 3rd companies inc Wittman, with Tiger 1s

Elements of Luftwaffe 4th Flak Assault Regt with towed 88s

Wow the Dauntless book is an incredible source.? His notes doc is a treasure.?

Thank you for pointing that out.

Tom,

Make sure you have a look through his photo tour of the battlefield. Gives a very good idea of how close the terrain would be.

Allan.

Breaking the Panzers by KevinBaverstock is worth reading if you're? interested in op Martlet. Goes through the action on an hour by hour basis.

I've ordered the book at ?23.

Just a thought here and it might just be me but ...... would this set of interlinked operations not be ideal for an O Group scenario/campaign?

I've played the Martlet/Dauntless PSC in CoC, but the wider action may well be suited to a battalion plus action.

Allan.

An excellent suggestion Allan. I've seen the expanded versions of the scenarios for "29 Let's Go" and thought that several PSCs would bear scaling up.

Of course, this requires a campaign supplement for O Group. I'm sure one will be out by Easter.?

My coat? But it's cold outside. :-)

Kind regards

If you want to go that way, I'd have a look at the IABSM scenarios or campaigns...
