TT4, GPS5, home-brew splitter cable Q 10
Howdy folks! I have a TinyTrak4 with display and keyboard running 0.72, GPS5, and a home-brew splitter cable another ham gave me years ago. I'm trying (for the first time) to use the splitter cable and I'm having mixed results and I'm hoping someone can give me some tips. *The TT4 and GPS5 work GREAT. Love 'em. A+! See my tracks from yesterday as W0ULF-12 *If I unplug the GPS5 and plug my PC into the TT4, I can see all the decoded APRS packets. That's exactly what I want: the ability to connect the laptop up and use an APRS program like APRSIS32 or Pinpoint and send and receive packets! *When I insert the home-brew splitter cable between the TT4 and my PC, and plug the GPS5 into the third leg of the splitter cable, all I get on the PC is the stream of GPS packets from the GPS5. I stop seeing the serial data from the TT4. I WANT to get the traffic from both the TT4 and the GPS5 on my PC AND have the ability to send/receive APRS data from the PC and GPS over the radio. I'm assuming that either my cable isn't wired right (I haven't found a wiring diagram to check it against, nor have I found one for sale) or I have my ABAUD/AMODE BBAUD/BMODE settings wrong. I would love the following, if possible: *Suggested config settings for the TT4 to make this work *Wiring diagram for the splitter cable so I can see if that was made correctly or not *Anything else you think might be helpful or humourous. ? Thanks again for your time, and have a great day! -Vaughn Phillips W0ULF Lebanon, Oregon

New TinyTrak Group Member 8000FA Questions. 15
Thank you Allen. I downloaded the manual, read it through and loaded the configuration software on my Windows 11 PC. I have a GPS module that I think will work with the 8000FA and several male and female DB9 connectors that I can use to make the programming cable. I'm assuming the GPS module connects to the 8000FA with a DB9 also. There is a male DB9 soldered to the contacts on the 8000FA already. There are wires connected to the 12VDC block on the 8000FA with Anderson Power Poles on the other end to connect to a 11.1V 3S LiPo battery. Can you please give me information on how to make a programming cable with a female DB9 on the 8000FA end and a USB A on the PC end. I also need info on the female DB9 pinouts for connecting the GPS module to the 8000FA. This is a lot to ask for. I thank you for any info you can give me. 73, Steve KD9AER

Another Digipeater - Not receiving stations 5
I am attempting to setup a portable Fill-in Digipeater. I am using a 12v battery, TT4, and Radio Shack HTX-252 connected using the Byonics cable, R4C. Pretty basic setup. The problem I am running into, is unless the signal is really, really strong, the TT4 isnt decoding it, or even seeing the carrier (no lights). I have two other aprs stations at my location to compare, and would expect simlar results. (mobilinkd / FTM-3100) & (direwolf / IC-7100). I have adjusted RXAMP to almost every setting and used MONITOR while adjusting volume, forcing other APRS stations to trasmit, and just getting poor results. I have also run a "RESTORE", and reconfigured the system, messed around with CDMODE and CDLEVEL. I have plugged external speakers into the audio port of the radio to verify it is working and I can hear signals. Turned squetch on, turned it off, added ferrite cores to the audio cables. Yes, I have an anetnna plugged in, even gets 1.1 SWR. As another test, that I didn't spend much time on, was to plug the audio cable into my IC-51 handheld, to make sure it wasn't a radio issue, as this HTX is an ebay find. I have attached my export config. (Dropped BANK1 config as it was just a copied and reduced the size of the post.) Yes, it is a bit simple right now as it is just focused on receiving signal before I start configuing everything else on it. I also included a receive log below. My station comes through, but is close to 30 feet away running 5W. The other station is a few miles away, but have no idea on setup or power output. Being just north of the Seattle area, this area sees a lot more traffic as I am able to see on my other stations. Any insight into what I may not have tried or what I may be doing wrong, would be helpful. Programming my old RTG-30 8
I set up my old RTG-30 (bought in 2012) on my boat, and it's working fine. However, I need to change the settings to change the SSID and symbol from car to boat. When I initially tried to do this I downloaded the latest TT3 software and connected my old Byonics null-modem serial cable. After gighting with the prolific driver issue I got the COM port to work at least. However, Every time I hit Read Data it couldn't find the RTG-30. I figured maybe the problem is my USB-to-serial that I plugged the null-modem into and ordered the Byonics TT USB cable, which arrived yesterday. Question: Should this work now, or might there be an issue with the latest TT3 software talking to a 2012 RTG-30? If so, does anyone know where I can download an older version of the software? I'm trying to be prepared for all contingencies for when I'm going down to the marina later. Thanks much! Nico W3NCL

No PTT after upgrade to 0.72 6
Hi, I have upgraded a Tiny Trak4 v7 board to version 0.72 firmware from 0.6. After configuring it I now have no PTT action at the radio. The red led comes on on the TT4 but it doesn't trigger the PTT on the Radio. Note that this was working okay prior to the upgrade and nothing has changed in terms of the radio connection. Is there a new setting in version 0.72 for the PTT that i have missed ?

TT4 with Peet Ultimiter Troubleshooting 22
Hello to the group, I am in need of troubleshooting assistance with a Peet Ultimiter compatible home brew weather station that I have connected to my TT4. This is what I have so far: The TT4 is connected to a Motorola Radius M130 control station, and receives and transmits within specifications, as calibrated against my service monitor. I wrote code in Java for a Weather Station that runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 which has a 7" display, as well as code to display the output of a Bosch I2C BME280 temperature/pressure/humidity sensor (which I reverse engineered from the Adafruit Python driver). I also wrote code to generate the Peet $ULTW 52 character sentence from the weather station. I do not have any other sensors yet. Just the temp/humidity/pressure. All of that works fine, so I fabricated a "Y" adapter to feed the RPi weather station to the secondary port on the TT4. The problem is that the TT4 sends the data into the network, but all the fields are blank. I am trying to figure out if the problem is in my code, or in the settings in the TT4. Is there anyone who has a working Peet Ultimiter connected to a TT4 who can post a copy of their TT4 SETTINGS display dump? That way I can rule out the configuration of the TT4. Thanks in advance for your assistance, John N1CTF

Byonics GPS - Failures 6
I have a number of Byonics GPSs and 3 that have failed. The failed units are Byonics GPS (1 Original), Byonics GPS2 and Byonics GPS5. They have all failed in a similar way and when connected to a TT3: - The LED comes on; but - No data is received by the TT3 (IE Green LED does not flash). My questions are: - Is it likely that the failure could be temperature related? Unit is inside car where temperature could exceed 60C. - Is repair possible/economical?

Altitude data from TT AIO 5
Greetings. In prep for a foot race, I got the TT AIO out, and verified operation at my house. I checked the altitude data it was sending out and it was all over the place, considering that the TT was sitting motionless in my window (inside my house, exposed to the south, vinyl siding). There was no pattern to the random altitudes being transmitted. The position was steady, the altitudes varied about 200 feet if I recall correctly. Anyone else experience this? If so is the SOP or is there something that can be done to resolve the unstable altitude? thanks -marc in MI K8MH

Service advice for MTT4BT PCB version 1.8 8
Hi folks, Helping a local ham club (W1BST) troubleshoot their weather station (Peet Brothers Ultimeter 100) hooked to the Byonics MTT4BT. We noticed erratic operation, but programmability is fine. Upon further inspection we found a burned diode. It's labeled D6 on the silk screen, and according to the schematic in the manual (very hard to read/low resolution), I think it feeds the 12 V regulator U6, which I can't find, unless it's under the microassembly near U5, which is labeled. The PCB diagram in the manual is no help, no reference designators and it appears to be the wrong board, or an earlier version. Anyway, if I'm reading the manual schematic correctly, I believe D6 and D7 are there to protect from reverse polarity being applied to the inputs, not sure what else. The failure mode? The unit worked well for over a year. The club recently rewired the shack and was chasing ground loops in the station. At some point in the process we noticed that the MTT4BT only powered up when the unit was grounded through the antenna, whatever that means! Then we noticed the burned diode. Now my questions: 1. Is there a service contact for these boards? What are the arrangements, costs etc? 2. I see the Byonics web site says they are out of stock on these boards. Is there a similar replacement? 3. Where does one procure SMT diodes? And what would I specify? What is the part number? Are they available from Byonics? In any case, please confirm that this is a reverse protection diode and could be jumpered out. Also, a good schematic would be helpful. Thanks all. I've really enjoyed getting to know APRS and this application and look forward to a solution. Ralph Simons KC1RWK

Not recieving packets when car is on 18
I recently put my TT4 in the car and added bluetooth to the unit. Works well, for the most part. The problem I am having is that when the engine is on, my packet decode rate plummets to almost nothing. If the engine is off, there is no issues. I assume that this is an RFI issue. When I listen to the radio with the engine on, I cannot hear any noticeable RFI over the speaker but I assume that this issue would not be detectable audibly like this. Suggestions on where to look? I added ferrites to all the TT4 cables to no avail. Thanks! Noah KE5VQL
