Weather information

Hello, I have a Kenwood TM-V71 and I would like to transmit wx information over the APRS network via RF, from a Davis Vantage Pro2 that is a year old. I would like to use a Tinytrak3Plus. I have the data logger, both USB and serial. Can someone tell me how they do it? I also have a Kenwood DM-710 that I could use instead on the V71. I have a a Tiny Trak3Plus with the TinyPack v0.1 loaded in the TinyTrak3Plus and I also have a regular Tinytrak3plus for APRS use. I did see something about a WXTrax on a TinyTrak4Plus. I tried for information on another chat box. I did get a lot of information on how to use a do it using a Rasberry Pi and other stuff. I scrolled through some prior posts but may have missed what I was looking for. Thanks in advance for any information, Bruce WA1YZN

Dead / Bricked Tinytrak 4
8
Hi Group, I got my hands on this bricked TT4. The person who gave it to me said it was exhibiting erratic behavior (bad decoding, not transmitting). At some point he tried to upgrade the firmware, and ended up stuck with the TT4 in this state. https://photos.app.goo.gl/LGH8fmvLeDFML1uGA When powering up it does not even show the boot loader message on the connected terminal. Any ideas ? -- ___________________________________________________________ Geoffrey F4FXL / KC3FRA My Tinytrak Stuff => http://f4fxl.org/tag/tinytrak

Audio receive level
3
Hi All, Following topic drifted to a discussion about audio levels /g/TinyTrak/topic/95670230#1649 In order to not highjack the topic any longer I start a new one. The topic above triggered me to finish an article I started a while ago about receive audio levels on the Tinytrak 4. https://www.f4fxl.org/setting-optimal-receive-level-for-the-tinytrak-4/ It would be nice to have feedback from other users. 73 Geoffrey -- ___________________________________________________________ Geoffrey F4FXL / KC3FRA My Tinytrak Stuff => http://f4fxl.org/tag/tinytrak

GPS question (TT4BT and APRSdroid)
5
Hi Everyone...I have TT4 with the BT...when connecting to my Android phone and running APRSDROID...Smart Beaon on (won't tx)...I have to manually enter gps coordinates for app to tx...I have GPS5 connected and it works just find when running cable from phone to radio...but not when using BT...seems to me it's the Android app and nothing to do with TT4BT...the TT4BT connects and works fine when connected to laptop using BT connection...I could use your thoughts on this... Feature request with mtt4 line
I noticed that the two units I got shipped with ¡°test xx¡± as ID and when powered it will make transmissions with these fake setup accounts thus making an emission illegally I didn¡¯t intend. a feature request to disable tx via jumper or software so when new unit shipped it¡¯s not transmitting with no ID You can see examples like looking up TEST22 or any other number on aprs.fi. kelly

other software on byonics hardware
2
anyone else run 3rd party software? I am hitting some limits with this hardware, I purchased it after suggestions here to look at it, after purchasing other stuff. and now I feel I have hardware from 1990 that I cant use today to be honest, direwolf on a raspberry is 90% more functional let alone open source ESP32/STM TNC code out there. I haven't had heard any word on any improvements or enhancements officially, my email here isn't likely helping. but like a broken John deer .. I dont care much, I have spent a lot on this stuff for the value to flop into the box of 1980 IBM keyboards that click with a TT3. I got some parts to actually retrofit the AT128 chip and replace with a SMT32 or ESP32 I will be tinkering around with but dont feel completely comfortable with publishing clearly here per-say, as I am not here to run a business, or detail more of my issues with this hardware. I thought would work better with bluetooth etc but turns out its my fault for not researching before purchasing. (still going to test next gen chips but its a waste of resources to run ESP as a UART translator to a ATMEGA and since more open software could be more adaptable its more attractive to try and accomplish. (if your alert to the market the STM32 has a nice project on it and the ESP32 has some open source TNC's as well) wondering if anyone has gone this path? be nice to see the source of this project opened up some day, I think it would help sale$ - I remember a story about APRSIS32 I think it was and the source code story there. Anyway .. Kelly

how to use PS2 keyboard?
4
Question:I didn't find any documentation, could have missed it. searched the forums here for found something on F5! but when I press F5 nothing happens, I see text so.. what is supposed to happen? Tested on TT4 and MTT4 and same results one item of note the text rolls off 20 character display on MTT4B due to a longer product name. kelly

MTT4BT Anyone actually get bluetooth to work?

Here is a link to a project similar to what you are doing. I got it to work on my TT4. It fits in the TT4 case. \\John KB7JJG https://www.f4fxl.org/putting-a-3-3v-hc-05-module-in-the-tinytrak-4/

MTT4BT Anyone actually get bluetooth to work?
29
I have had two units now, and no bluetooth found at all. when scanning via linux scan or iOS scan I found my neighbors mailbox light! but I didnt find anything relates to this hardware advertising how do you know the BT module is operating at all is there any LED? any testing of units before shipping to tell if it's working? set jumpers as per the addendum. I was going to try and connect to the BT module via serial but .. had issues with that in the past. anyone have any luck here? also looked in groups.io history, others have issues and I never find any answers? kelly

Simple Digipeater
21
We want to setup a simple and easy digipeater. Can we just take TT4, Baofeng radio, and outside antenna to do this project? Our nearest I-Gate is 12 air miles away. We are trying to cover some remote land that has rugged terrain. Thanks in advance Richard Cross KC4MJN

(CORRECTIONS) MTT4BT Anyone actually get bluetooth to work?
2
I found my TT4BT module and there are two LEDs, one labelled "ACT" (Active?) and one labelled "LNK" (Link?). One's yellow the other is green. I suppose "LNK" means "Paired AND Connected" and "ACT" means "Data being sent/received," but there appears that there's no actual "Power On" LED. I'd use a DMM on the tiny 3-terminal regulator IC (Pos to pin 2, Neg to pin 1). Look for about 3.3 Vdc. Harbor Freight used to give away free DMMs as promos...do they still do that? Seems to me there was a jumper on the TT4 to control power to pin 4 of the DE-9M connector. If you determine the BT module is NOT getting power, you might check that jumper. Download the TT4 schematic to see how that works. I also found the schematic. The heavy lifting in this circuit is done by a pretty complex daughter board and it's a standard, well-known BT module that goes by the part number/name of "HC-05 Bluetooth Master/Slave Module" and I was once able to find a datasheet for the HC-05 module, but so far I don't know where THAT might be. This HC-05 module sets virtually all of the characteristics of the Byonics TT4BT adapter, so that's where I'd go to get the details of Byon's product. My TT4BT schematic MAY already be in the "files" section of the forum, if the original Yahoo forum's files were transferred to groups.io in the change-over. It may be in a folder with my name or callsign on it. I seem to remember someone complained about the way I'd named some signals on this drawing in a section relating to EIA-232C signals (I named them according to the EIA/RS specs, they ARE a little weird!...I cut back on contributing after that). So it must have been there at one time. It'd probably be named something like "TT4 Adapters & Cables with TT4BT.sch" or "TT4 Adapters & Cables with TT4BT.pdf". If the former, you might need to go to ExpressPCB.com and download their free copy of TxpressPCB Schematic Capture if the forums file is a .sch file. The TT4BT BT module is on sheet 3 (check the tabs at the bottom of the app); you can ignore the rest. I made several of the symbols for components used in this drawing, but I think component definitions are also embedded in the PCB design file they're used in, so there shouldn't be any "holes" in the drawing. So, in the future, don't just look in posts history, look in the files section as well. I was active in this forum when it was on Yahoo, but not so much now, so I'm pretty unfamiliar how groups.io works. I was a beta tester for the TT4, back in the day... Barry N4MSJ

Windows 11 and cable compatibility
17
Gentlemen, Is anyone out there using a PC with Windows 11 to program their TT3/TT4 devices? If so, have you used any of the Byonics USB programming cables and Prolifics drivers? I have had a report of incompatibility with the cables and WIN 11. Not wanting to possibly ruin my life, or at least a computer, by loading an OS that is probably as buggy as a Louisiana swamp, I thought it best to seek the wisdom of the crowd! 73, Allen AF6OF

TT4 stopped reading WX
5
Howdy; I decided to replace my base radio (HT) with a mobile. Went fine except the radio would just xmit all the time. Read the docs and sway I needed to remove a jumper. Opened the case, moved the jumper, powered it back up and noticed that the WX from the Peet Bros station was not working. I checked and rechecked for broken wires wince I had did a split cable arrangement between the radio and WX. Found nothing. Connected the WX directly to the computer using their cables. WX is putting out data. Hmm... So I thought I had possibly staticed it. So I have another one I use for a tracker. Reprogrammed it and installed it. Same thing, No WX, just all the letters. So now what. Suggestions? This system has worked for many years, I just wanted to change out from the HT to a bigger radio. Just don't understand what happened. Thanks in Advance 73 Mike - N7ZEF

MTT4BT 2.5mm port
3
I have another question to support@ that I figured I might ask here as well. sorry for the emails I can¡¯t seem to find the documents to confirm my questions yet. What is the proper way the MTT4BT is supposed to connect? I have a ttusb and ttusb25 cables. How do you connect to the MTT4BT do you apply 12v (or9) do you use the db9, do you only use the 2.55? i ask because the documents say use 2,5 for pc connections but when I plug the 2.5 in nothing but a com port is present and I can¡¯t get any data out of it but if I use the db9 port things work. I don¡¯t know if mine was not programmed or defective? I need to do something else? it showed up called testing44 or something like that. Port a is 19200 and b is 4800 this is contrary to the documents? Thanks in advance and sorry for my name on your screen once more :) kelly

GPS-5 Adapter Cable
7
My installation in the car keeps breaking the GUA adapter, because it is not long enough to take pressure off the connectors. A Prolific cable did not work at all and I have a flexible 2 foot long FTDI adapter. However, it will not bring in the correct data stream on Putty that I am used to seeing. Byron says I need a male to male adapter to open Pin 4. I may be misunderstanding this, too. I get lighted LED's on the adaptor and each one is labeled. Can anyone tell me how to read the signal coming in? Spike N4EBF
