Micro-trak 8000 FA config software not recognizing tracker.. 13
I'm not sure if anyone still monitors this group but I have a Tiny Trak that is not being recognized by the software. I have isolated every usb port I have and labeled them accordingly. This is not a comm port issue, it's just not recognizing the software. I've tried rebooting, , restarting the software, rebooting with the cable attached to the port, you name it. NOTHING works. This is the first time I've tried to do this, meaning this is the first time this computer has been used to access the tracker and I also have a brand new serial to USB cable. It's probably not the cable ss it's brand new. WHAT would you try?

MTT4BT and Mobilinkd3 3
I'd like to link these two systems together. Why- well as an iOS user, Apple doesn't like anybody, but MobilinkD has figured out how to connect the APRS.FI app to their product over Bluetooth. So what I'm thinking is that I could use port A as a KISS TNC over to the MobilinkD, which would make the connection to my phone and provide an iGate, and messaging interface. Anybody traveled this road yet? I guess the first step- what cable to use... The MobilinkD: TRRS ¨C 3.5mm TRRS audio connector for Radio. 1.Tip = Speaker (audio input to TNC) 2.Ring 1 = PTT (Simplex PTT mode) 3.Ring 2 = Mic (and PTT in Multiplexed PTT mode) 4.Sleeve = GND/Commo Don't know why, but the schematic in the PDF is very blurry and unreadable. Is the MTT4BT just a TRRS or something other? Thanks -Brian KG7KHL

MTT4BT and Garmin Montana APRS 22
I am looking to replicate what the Kenwood D710 can do with the Garmin system, but in a much smaller package. I want a headless APRS tracking system, with just the waypoints popping up on the garmin. Example video: https://www.youtube.com/watch? ( https://www.youtube.com/watch ) v=JrO8exEWG60 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrO8exEWG60 ) I understand the MTT4BT is up to the task. Anybody doing this or have experiences to share? -Brian KG7KHL

TT4 well configured as a Digi???? 3
hello everyone, i am not sure at all that my TT4 here is well configured as a digi, what is the latest software that is running in today tt4 ,i would compare with the one i have here and is there a gentleman here that could send me his file of an actual well working tt4 as a digi! it has been month since a login in the tt4,,i dont remember even how to do it but i remember it was special,,i will check if i can find it. this tt4 here will be installed in a tree with a small solar panel and a checp chinese talkie.it will re-send to my igate the traffic that i cannot hear because i am badly located,,in a very low level terrain and surrounded by small lountains so i can hear just a bit the traffic.this tt4 should be a big + and i need just 1 watt max so its great. 73/s all and thanks for your help ve2ckn2 at hotmail.fr gervais ve2ckn

compatible weather station for MTT4B-Mini 2
We want to setup a remote weather station powered by solar/battery. I'm looking at the MTT4B-Mini that states in the addendum manual, "for stand-alone battery or solar powered digipeaters, weather stations, etc". I'm making an assumption that this implies that a weather station can be directly connected to the MTT4B-Mini with no need for an intermediate computer like a Raspberry Pi. My questions are, what weather stations would be compatible, and is there a "how-to" guide describing how to set this up (physical wiring as well as the MTT4B programming setup)? Thank you, -Dj

How can I do this? toggling between two APRS messages. 11
I want to generate two flavors of APRS messages, switching on the fly back and forth. This is for a coverage study and it would be great if I can do it for two repeaters more-or-less simultaneously, while I drive around and switch the radio between transmitting two different PL tones. If I can do this I can have my path come out on a map in two different colors. Thanks Bear Albrecht W5VZB OOOTC

Tiny Trak 3+ questions 3
Hi, I am new to both the Tiny Trak 3+ and using APRS. Setup is pre-built TT3, Beofeng UV-82, and radio cable made by Bionics. Both VFO set to 144.390 (MA in USA) high power of about 5W into quarter wave mag mount. Battery for a charged 12V and 12 AH gel battery. Goal of the setup is a tracker used for my hiking / bicycling / motorcycling. My setup currently does not make it into the APRS network and show up in sites like aprs.fi. In to configuration of TT3 via the web page app and unsure where I should be improving / modifying. Is it trial and error, or is there a troubleshooting diagram to document on how to get it to work when near my local node or digipeater? Currently testing the TT3+ will power up and within a few minutes flash 1 red, then three flashes of orange and green together, then repeat. Is there a way to understand the flashing LED pattern? Any thoughts on where to look next to be successful? Thank you, Joel Desrochers N1KRL

new here - MTT4BT on a bicycle 10
Hi from Yellowknife, NT, I'm about to purchase a MTT4BT for portable use (powered by a lithium battery). Initally I plan to install it on my (recumbent) bicycle. For the bike minimal hardware (less space and weight) is the goal. If a surplus Android phone is connected by bluetooth what I can I do through it, configuration? APRS texts? In short, what is the most practical hardware setup for a bicycle installation? Thanks, Ron -- Ron VE8RT <ve8rt@...>

Carrier Detect TT4 Yellow LED Constant On 3
My solar digipeater has been working well since last summer 2020. Earlier in May this year it went silent for 10 days or so, until I was able to gain access to my fire tower installation 90ft. up. I discovered that all equipment was operational except the TT4 yellow LED was constantly on; no flickering or blinking or off. Acted like the TT4 was locked up or frozen. So I removed power to the TT4 and reconnected. The TT4 immediately began working again and It seemed to work for a day or two and has gone silent again. Before I get permission to go back again, any thoughts on a constant-on yellow LED? Wondering if the TT4 needs to be replaced. Thanks, Doug KF5BCX

setting up a digi with tt4 need some config advice 9
I'm wondering what is the command to have it say that its fixed? Currently it says mic-e where a normal digi says fixed, unsure if i can put details on the power and the antenna direction also my station says s instead of p when receiving packets on my ft2dr. I want to get this right since its going to be solar up in no mans land without access for months at a time. Current config as of now. the bperiod will change before it goes up the mtn. TT4 Display using TC2004A-03R 3
I tried to trim this down to the new thread. Greg, From the diagrams in information posted, it appears you purchased the the Byonics LCD interface board and appear to be looking for an LCD display to use with it? The TC2004A-03R is a 20x4 display module with a 16-pin header which is capable of either a 4-bit or 8-bit interface. As such, it will not directly interface with the TT4. It requires the "TT4 Display board" which is also shown in the pictures. So it appears you have everything you need to connect the display (and optional keyboard) to the TT4. So what is your question? a) How to interface the TT4 Display board and display to a TT4 kit See page2 of the TinyTrak4 DK Adaptor Manual Version 1.3. This requires you remove the 10-pin header, strip each wire, and manually solder the wires to the pins on the board of TT4 There is no easy header to just plug into. b) How to interface the TT4 Display board and display to a TT4 prebuilt See page 1 of the TinyTrak4 DK Adaptor Manual Version 1.3. This version has a header, so plug it in to the socket (J9) c) How to interface the TT4 Display board and display to a MTT4B radio See page 1 of the TinyTrak4 DK Adaptor Manual Version 1.3 (similar to prebuilt). This version has a header, so plug it in to the socket labeled LCD-KBD I have used an LCD display on the TT4 Kit version (kind of a pain to solder to the pins) and the MTT4B. Firmware settings are: NODISP FALSE (yes double negative means the display is attached) DDIST [true|flase] (depends on if you want to see ditance to other station on LCD) MSGCAP [true|false] (set if you want to use the display/keyboard to send messages) RPATHDISP [true|false] (set to display full packet path. Not sure this is serial or LCD) TXTDISP [true|false] (set to disp[lay generated packets from computer on LCD - I think) I think that covers all of them specific to the LCD display. I would start with NODISP FALSE TXTDISP TRUE and leave everything else as you had it. You should see packets decoded from RF and the pc on the LCD screen. With the MTT4B or prebuilt, this should just work. If using the kit version and you don't see, check that everything is wired properly, Robert Giuliano KB8RCO

Driving GPIO pins 16
Evening all I have a memory that it is possible to drive a gpio pin in a Tinytrak 4 high or low based on the receipt of an over the air command in an APRS packet. I have looked at the manuals and this mailing list but can't find anything. I am looking to drive a relay to switch a repeater on and off at a remote mountain site which is battery powered. Is my memory more faulty than usual? Could someone point me to some doco on this. Thanks and regards Steven VK2BOS

My overly-complicated TT3+ install 9
Here's how I did my TinyTrak3+ install, pretty complicated but it works well. First, a couple of facts: I'm running a Yaesu FT-7900R, which has the mini-DIN plug in back. If your radio requires connecting to the mic and speaker jacks then this will not apply. I'm driving an older vehicle, a Ford Ranger 4X4. I've already drilled holes for VHF/UHF and HF antennas so I don't have a problem with drilling for a GPS antenna. I prefer not to have GPS coax sneaking in the door. I retired from the radio business and I've done my share of installs back in the day. My preference is a simple looking installation without a lot of extra switches. So I'll walk you through the install from +12V to antenna.

New TinyTrak3+ stuck in transmit. 6
I finished assembling my first TinyTrak3+ yesterday and the radio cable arrived today. When I hooked it up (GPS hasn't arrived yet) it powered up OK, but it was stuck in transmit. If I checked "No Tx While PTT In" in the config, and then the stuck xmtr problem went away, but it would never transmit. It looked like U1 pin 11 was stuck low, but even removing D5 didn't help. Finally, I removed U1 and found pin 11 still low. Really? Eventually I loosened U2 and the short went away. I couldn't see exactly what caused the short, I'll chalk it up to a micro-meteorite. But until I get a TO-220 insulator it's going to remain lifted up a bit. This has probably been answered before on the old message board, I'm new here and had little to search. So I'm posting this for some poor soul in the future.

Anyone using a Tiny Trk with the Chinese 898 radios? - HOOK Squelch? 12
> Many radios had a means of changing the squelch when the mic was hung in a metal holder. I'm no expert, but I think maybe when on-hook it enabled CTCSS "hard" squelch. But when off hook maybe it resorted to carrier squelch so you could hear other possible users on the channel? Bob

kinda OT -- aprs wx station feed to internet 12
Hi folks: So this question involves aprs, though not over the radio this time. A bit of background: I have been putting together a weather station to play with. I started with the sparkfun wx kit with wind/rain sensors on a little pole, which came with an interface board that also included a bme280 PHT sensor and a goofy microbit javascript-browser-programmed controller. It was clunky to program but it worked, and I formatted some serial data packets in the microbit, fed it down a cable (I have a conduit to the roof) to a laptop, parsed it with a little python program, and sent updates to graphs at adafruit.io. That was kinda fun but the microbit was limiting. Then I made an interface board to replace the sparkfun/microbit thingy, conditioning the wind/rain sensors, and also using a bme280 (which I had used before), micro, and a gps for a time-stamp (could just use an internet time server in python but that is less fun; plus I wrote that gps code for balloons years ago and I have a bunch of neo6 modules lying aroung). Anyway, I now have a nicer acquisition unit on the roof, feeding a laptop python program (that I want to move to a rasp-pi for final version). The sensing side of things is under control, and I plan to try feeding to pwsweather and/or wunderground, as it was easy to set up a free account on each and they publish APIs for posting updates (neither is live yet). BUT, it would also be interesting to feed to aprs/cwop. I am somewhat familiar with aprs field formatting for radio packets, but have not done anything with internet feeds. Initial searches are a bit overwhelming and I was hoping that someone could point me to a few pertinent links. I do not want to run a program on a pc. I want a nice low-power deployment to an rpi, coding preferably in python (or c). I am looking for simple http posts or similar to get data into the aprs system. Any pointers? thx, gil

connecting serial directly from TT4 board? 5
My preferred setup is to combine the TT4 with a Raspberry Pi Zero W. I have been using the TT4BT to provide serial to the Pi, but is there a place on the board I can easily connect J2 pins 2&3 serial direct? This would cut the power consumed by 50ma and be a more reliable connection. Thanks
