Keyboard Issues

I recently purchased a used TT4 with the optional display. I got a new PS/2 style keyboard from Amazon, it works with my PC no problem. However, I cant figure out what's going on with the TT. It will not recognize any input from the keyboard. I've re-loaded the current firmware and even tried the previous version. The display shows location information and received messages no issue. Am I missing something? Has anyone had compatibility issues??

I have a similar problem.? did you ever resolve your issue?? my keyboard seems to not do anything.? but works fine on a PC.? I have no problem using the serial port and a terminal. So, I know the device works.? just not the keyboard.

Are you trying to connect to a TT4 kit, or 'prebuilt"?
Assuming 5V and Ground are good since the display is working.
If it is the kit, you probably want to check the ribbon cable soldering on pins 28 and 29 (of the micro).
These need to go to pins 9 and 10 of the 10-pin header and up to PS/2 pins 5 and 1 (respectively).

Next, ensure you are not using any of the digital pins for telemetry (these are used for the display and keyboard.

When connected, press <F5> (Function key F5) to enter "Configure mode" and type MSGCAP TRUE
The display should show the setting as TRUE.
Press <F4> to create and send a new message.
? ? ? I had mine on the MTT4B (same header as the prebuilt).? Never used a keyboard, but as I recall ...
? ?It prompts you for a "to" (target) callsign.? ?Type one and press <Enter>
? ?Then type a message and press <Enter>
? ?It should send the message.
Firmware manual page 2 has more.

Note that you must use a plain, old-fashioned PS/2 Keyboard to make this work in most cases. A USB Keyboard with an adapter will generally not work since it may require special drivers, or it may "kinda-sorta" work leaving you hanging out with some F keys that don't function. Fortunately, 2/3rds of PC users in America have PS/2 Keyboards in the basement or garage!

basically, the only thing that I can get is the power on screen.? I do see the lights come on in the keyboard (numlock/etc).? but after the device boots up, nothing else.? I was given a few of these in a big box of APRS stuff and trying to get it going. But, the keyboard has no luck. All the solder connections look good.

So the pictures are of a pre-built TT4 with with the header.
The other obvious things are:
? ?* The cable is in correctly because you see the version information.
? ?* You are running v0.72 firmware

I think there are only 2 other settings that could impact the display:
? ? ?NODISP FALSE? ? ? ? Kind of backward, but NODISP FALSE means YES DISPLAY??
? ? ?MSGCAP TRUE? ? ? ? doesn't change any settings, just indicates capability in APRS packets? ??
I have not connected the display with an incorrect NODISP setting, so it may still display the above info.

Have you tried any function keys to see if the display changes?
The default mode is to display incoming packets, so you need to try something like:
? ?<F3> to list all stored messages
? ?<F4> to create a message
? ?<F5> Configure mode

I have tried all function keys. And get no response.? and I have tried 2 different keyboards (though, they are the same brand -- but they are actual PS/2).? going to have to go through a junk box to see if I can find some other PS/2 keyboards to try them.

When I get my laptop down to my workbench, I'll connect to the terminal mode and try the other settings. I have no problem in the terminal.

thanks, will follow-up once I try these things.
