Fw: [tinytrak4] TinyTrak4 & Windows 10 problem

Somehow (okay my mistake), this didn't post, but just went to Allen.? Reposting.

A couple questions:
?? 1.? Are you sure the TT4 has firmware?
?? ? ?? If not sure, you can use the TT4 Configuration app to <Re-Load Firmware> using A-B-C process below.
?? 2. Do the LEDs cycle through on power up, then go to just BLUE, or just the BLUE LED?
?? ? ? Without that cycle, there is either no firmware, or maybe the KIT has an issue.

If you connect the cable to the TT4 before connecting the USB device and starting the interface program.?
If you do connect the USb to the TT4 and plug it in to the computer, you will miss the "TT4 startup" that the application is looking for.

Process needs to be:
?? 1. Connect USB dongle to computer FIRST!
?????? This establishes the COM port and everything should be up and running with communication .
?? 2. Next - Open TeraTerm and make sure the port settings
?? 3. Then connect to the TT4 with the dongle because on power up, the TT4 sends bootloader message.

Same is true if using the TT4 Configuration application.
?? A. Connect USB dongle to computer FIRST!
?????? This establishes the COM port and everything should be up and running with communication .
?? B. Next - open TT4 Configuration Application and take any steps such that the message says "Cycle Power" (or something like that)
??????? I use <Read Config> as a means of getting the message
?? C. Then connect to the TT4 with the dongle because to 'see' power up.
??????? The TT4 sends a bootloader message that the Configuration application looks for.

Martyn,

You are on the right track ( No pun intended) but the Byonics USB-TT3 cable supplies power to the unit, even without power connected. ( You should not connect external power when using the USB-TT3 cable, which scavenges power from the USB port to power the ATMEGA TT4 chip) The power recycle with the Byonics cable should be accomplished by unplugging the programming cable from the TT4's DB-9 connector, not the USB port, which may take some time to rediscover itself, and the window to send the three escape commands has passed. Bringing pin 9 of the chip to ground is an alternative reset, but might be a tad difficult on the SMD version of the TT4.

Just covering all the bases¡just in case¡Neal. I¡¯m sure you¡¯ve probably done it this way but there is a ¡®procedure¡¯ if I remember correctly.
With your TT4 connected to your power source and connected to TeraTerm Pro¡.disconnect the TT4 power source and reconnect it. You should then see a line of text with an instruction as to how to proceed. You have to press a certain key 3 times within about 10 seconds I think. Allen will know.

Downloaded the USB cable driver from Byonics- windows 10 device manager shows com 5 port is prolific cable. Have baud rate at 19200 when using tera term pro. Still no response from the tinytrak when the terminal emulation window is open. The curser will blink for about 5 seconds then stop blinking. When I try to type in the window nothing shows up.?

The blue light is on when the tinytrak is plugged in

I have tried using Tera Term, Tera Term Pro, Putty and Windows terminal. I cannot get the any response from my tinytrak when hooked up to my PC. The blue light is on when the USB cable is connected to my PC.

In Windows Device Manager, com port 5 is labeled ¡°Prolific USB-to-serial Comm Port (COM5)¡±
What am I doing wrong? Is there a problem with the TinyTrak?

Groups.io includes a WIKI section.? I wonder if tidbits like these could be captured there as a place to go to look things up.
I am not good at structuring WIKIs, but would be willing to help capture, move and/or provide content for it.
