TT USB not compatible with Windows 10
So.... I just purchased a TT4 and accessory cables.? After installing drivers, I connected the TT USB cable to my computer (Windows 10). Looking at the Device Manager for the COM port, I get the message "PL2393HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER." Installing the latest drivers from Prolific didn't help either.
Has anybody had any success getting this to work with Windows 10? Thanks, Matt |
If you purchased the TT USB cable, download the driver from Byonics. Don't use other drivers.? I don't own one, but know of others that have had issues with drivers not downloaded from Byonics. Robert Giuliano

Matt, The Prolifics Drivers on the Byonics page work with everything from 95' all the way through WIN 10...I use these cables every day on Win 10. 73, Allen AF6OF On Fri, Aug 6, 2021 at 6:12 PM Rob Giuliano via <kb8rco=[email protected]> wrote:

Good to know it works for others. Not sure why it didn't work the first time around. I made sure I had installed the drivers from the Byonics website. Perhaps newer drivers already existed? I dunno. Anyways, I uninstalled all the drivers, reinstalled the drivers from Byonics, rebooted, and it is recognizes it now.
At this point, I can't get TeraTerm to connect to it. It shows conncected in the COM port, but nothing displays in the terminal window. The only thing different from the quick start that I can figure is that I'm not connected to a radio right now. I was just figuring I could configure it first. Cycling the device by un-plugging and plugging it back in has resulted in several BSODs so far. Matt N8SHA |
开云体育You might want to try Prolific 3.2.0.0. China has made a lot of fake Prolific chips. The latest drivers cause them to not work. Go to Miklor.com for more info.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Pretty lights!! On Aug 6, 2021, at 17:56, Matthew Adair <mladair@...> wrote:

A couple of items: 1. Windows 10 keeps track of every device that was ever connected, and just keeps incrementing ??? the COM# port ids.? Some 'older applications' like TeraTerm may only 'acknowledge' ports 1 - 9 or so. ??? In Device Manager, you can show hidden and clean out devices that are not in use, but are taking up ??? lower COM# numbers. 2. The TT4 provides feedback on initial boot up. You need to see this initial message in TeraTerm ??? This can be difficult with the TT USB cable as it powers the TT4 on J2 pin 4. ??? Three options here: ??? a) Open case and use the jumper for the TT4 pin 4 selection to cycle and reset the TT4 ??? b) Make sure the TT4 is not powered through the "Rado port' (J1 pin 7) and cycle power using J2 ??????? You cannot disconnect / reconnect the USB side because the TT4 is initiated ??????? before the PC sets up new COM# port and makes it active. ??? c) NOTE: carefully ground the Atmega chip reset pin - doesn't take much, just a touch to ground ??????? Kit version - Micro Pin 9 to ground Micro pin 11. ??????? PreBuilt version - micro pin 4, but no easy access.? ????????????? Schem references access on J5, but I don't see that connection on the board. NOTE about 2b:? Be very careful of the JP6.? ???? A lot of junk builds up in windows (not the least of which is the bloated os).? We have had work win machines get up over 100 com ports, but it gets annoying.? Clear the old ones out: I had a win 10 machine just finally slow down so much (disk access often hitting 100% for 15 minutes after boot), that I just got another dell and grumbled about lenovo quality control.? Then I needed a linux machine and decided to put a blank ssd in the old (not really that old) lenovo and load the mint distro.? Wow, what a nice os -- apparently there was nothing wrong with the lenovo (either windows corruption or maybe failing hard disk).? Every feature of the laptop worked out of the box with linux mint. ----- Original message ----- From: "Rob Giuliano via groups.io" <kb8rco=[email protected]> Subject: Re: [TinyTrak] TT USB not compatible with Windows 10 Date: Friday, August 06, 2021 7:29 PM A couple of items: 1. Jardy,
Byonics does not sell counterfeit Prolifics chips. Stick with the Drivers from the Byonics webpage, which as far as we know, are the ONLY drivers that will work.?

Jardy,
I did not mean to sound so defensive! My main concern is that loading your PC with other Prolifics drivers ( Which may also be counterfeit!) makes troubleshooting serial connections much more complicated. From here, it's almost impossible for us ( Byonics and VHS-me) to trouble shoot users computer problems as well as any actual TT4 or cable issues. Installing competitive software does not help.
FYI, I suggest that people download the free serial terminal program ComTestSerial from Microridge.?https://www.microridge.com/comtestserial.htm? Aside from being a generally useful terminal program, it will show all the ComPorts on your PC at a glance and all the status and settings. I like that it has Macro's too, although I don't always use them.
73,
Allen

Always looking for good free terminal programs with macros.? I'll give it a try. I always create macros for the software reset in KISS and TEXT modes. ? ?That comes in handy!

Thanks to all who replied on this topic! Your various hints got me going in the right direction. I should have known that unplugging the USB adapter at the PC would mess things up. Started unplugging at the TT4 and all worked out OK.
Lesson learned: don't try new things on the last night of a stressful week! Thanks & 73s! Matt - N8SHA |
