OK, thanks. I contacted Byron and he told me to give the tracking firmware a try that it won’t hurt anything. If it works, than GREAT, if not then I will set up the alpha firmware.

Good morning:

I think this is my second posting about this question.

I have a TinyTrak4 and would like to set it up as a portable Digipeater to cover some of our public service events.

This would be a digipeater operating on the standard 144.390 mHz frequency digipeating signals from event units. My hope is to have the portable digipeater set up somewhere to get weaker signals from units digipeated so local Igates to get the positions on aprs.fi.

I have the TT4, a radio, PS, and antennas. All I need is the configuration for the TT4.

Searching YouTube and the rest of the Internet I have to been able to come up with anything, not even generic digipeater settings that I could experiment with.

Any help appreciated, thank you.

You can do that with the V0.72 Alpha firmware by using specific settings to disable unwanted features:

Along with your normal tracker settings (Call, path#, SBEN related, PPeriod, ...) use these to turn off features

ALIAS1 % (same fro 2 and 3) to disable DIGI function

AMODE GPS Assuming you are using the GPS on the first serial port

ABAUD 9600 Match to your GPS

BMODE TEXT DEAFTEXT turns off this port, although I would leave it as TEXT

BBAUD 19200 This makes it possible to monitor on a computer if you have a splitter

CDLEVEL 20 This is still important as a bad setting will prevent you from TXing

CDMODE TONES

DIGIMY false

These may not be all the settings, but pretty close.

Although you don't need to worry about the receive setting (RXAMP) using MONITOR, you do want to ensure your TXAMP are set for good decoding by other stations.

Was the V0.72 (1284) from the Menu?

The latest firmware does come in both versions (644 and 1284).

So if it was just an educated guess, the best way to determine which chip is to use TeraTerm.

At the ? send a b and it will return with TinyTrack4 V1.2b (644) or TinyTrack4 V1.2c (1284).

This works with any firmware I have used.

I think you get it with Esc 3 times - the firmware and chip on the newer firmware versions is displayed.

I was part of the BATA team when he started the TT4 and worked with the tracker program. I still have the old tracker firmware and didn’t know if it would work if I loaded it. I sold my BATA kit that I built but found a TT4 last year at Hamvention with the GPS so I picked it up. I found a harness that I built for my FT-530 and thought I would give it a try again. The one that I picked up was a surface mount V7. I can’t see what chip is installed. The tracker program was easy to setup.

If by "newer TT4" you mean 1284 chip, the answer would be "not as is".

Most likely Byon could recompile it - if he has the code. But the TT4 already has all that code in the Alpha firmware.

All you would need to do is disable the portions of the code that you do not want to use (DIGI, display, ...).

It would still have receive capability, but the information would go no where.

Just wondering - is there some reason you don't want to use the Alpha Version?

Years ago, when the TT-4 was just in the bata mode Byron had a tracker firmware (tracker644p.TT4) along with the Alpha firmware. I was wondering if that firmware is still available and if it can be loaded into a newer TT4. If not, I am going to need a little help configuring the firmware for a tracker.

I found that I had to uninstall all the prolific drivers and have windows install the right ones. Everything is working as it should now.
