TT USB not compatible with Windows 10
So.... I just purchased a TT4 and accessory cables.? After installing drivers, I connected the TT USB cable to my computer (Windows 10). Looking at the Device Manager for the COM port, I get the message "PL2393HXA PHASED OUT SINCE 2012. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER." Installing the latest drivers from Prolific didn't help either.
Has anybody had any success getting this to work with Windows 10? Thanks, Matt |
Re: TT4 No Longer Detecting Carrier
When you say it "Stopped detecting carriers" do you mean that the yellow CD LED is not flashing, or that you are not seeing decoded packets??

I had a TT4 set up for about 2 weeks with a Kenwood TM-231A successfully operating as a digipeater. About two weeks ago I started using APRX as the digipeater and iGate, with the TT4 in KISS mode.
A few days ago, the TT4 stopped detecting carriers. Nothing in the config changed. I tried rebooting both the TT4 and the pi that is running APRX. Nothing. If I unplug the audio jack, I can hear the packets coming in and the radio is properly beaconing with the TT4 and APRX. My packets are decodable, because they are being accepted by a different iGate. RXAMP is properly calibrated and the CDMODE is tones. What else would you try? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCheck Device Manager. If the cable shows to be a Prolific cable, roll back the driver to 3.2.0.0. A lot of ¡®Prolific cables have fake Chinese chips in them. The latest Windows drivers cause those chips to not work. Using the older driver does work. Go to www.Millie.com for more info and to find the driver.?Jardy Dawson WA7JRD Message sent by....Oh look!! Re: Micro-trak 8000 FA config software not recognizing tracker..
Allison,
Your Amazon unit is probably more a "true serial" than the Byonics cable. The Byonics cable has pins 2 and 3 reversed in respect to that of a normal serial port. That is because the standard for GPS receivers is "backwards" and we want the MT-8000 FA ( And all the Byonics products for that matter) to be plug and play compatible with the Byonics and other GPS receivers ( Plain, old fashioned 5 Volt NMEA GPS receivers are hard a little hard to come by these days as a practical matter) You can build an adapter that brings the ground, tx and rx signal out of your Amazon converter.
The Byonics cable you would want is the USB-TT3 cable, which you can find here:?http://byonics.com/cables. Since it scavenges power from the USB port to run the low power part of the MT-8000 for programming, the amplifier is not powered up. This? will prevent a number of possible complications during programming, and save having to have a dummy load or antenna for programming. Power is bled into the serial connector from the pin ordinarily used to power an outboard serial GPS connected to the transmitter. Anyway, at $20.00 bucks ( And don't forget to download the free USB Drivers from the website!) The USB-TT3 cable makes things much easier.?
FYI, I am the manufacturer of the Micro-Trak product line from Byonics, and I think you will find this board to be an excellent resource for problem solving and applications that are often far outside my personal knowledge base. ( Also, there are a number of people here that are just really damn smart!)?
Welcome aboard!

Byonics may be the way to go.

The question you? asked is one that has been asked on and off list, in various ways for various Byonic products. I am not not if the party of "there is no such thing as a stupid question" - yes there is. A stupudcquestion is one you alreadynknow the answer to. EXAMPLE: ?My first car purchase:? After I told the car dealer the car he showed me was too expensive, hevasked me "How much do you 'want' to pay for the car?"? I said, 'Now that's a stupid question, I don't 'want' to have to pay for the car."? He sad, "You're right." Rob KB8RCO

If externally powered, you are unplugging the main power, buyt the MT-8K still has power from the Byonics adaptor, so the micro processor (uP)does actually reboot to get to the bootloader. 2. The computer's COM port diappears when you unplug it from the computer, so the configuration application gets lost. ??? The computer takes longer to recognize the USB device and install the drivers to create the COM port than the MT-8K takes to get through the initialization. The best way to handle this is to disconnect the MT-8K from the USB devie at the MT-8K DE9 connector. This keeps the computer COM port active and disconnects power from the uP and allows it to 'reboot'. Again, this is only true with the Byonics USB adaptor which powers the MT-8K through pin 4 of the DE9 connector. Robert Giuliano

Re: MTT4BT- Will not power with USB 2.5 Cable plugged in.
Brian,
I received your MTT4BT today. It appears that the corruption of the TT4 ATMEGA controller stemmed from the 2.5mm PORTA jack getting a bit bent and having intermittent contact. The programming cable probably just got tugged a bit too hard. Anyway, I replaced the TT4 chip and the jack and all is well. I had it on the air a few minutes ago ( Your Call sign) and it is sending positions and digipeating. I will be sending it back tomorrow. Sorry about the difficulties!?

Re: Negative temperature in Celcius
It may be due to loss of precision in the arithmetic used by Byon and not round off. It could be both. Without seeing the code employed in converting temp input to ascii for embedding in the aprs packet it is hard to tell. I suggest that there is likely an arithmetic algorithm within the microprocessor that would alleviate this. I could help but I don't have the code. regards rich painter On Tue, Jul 20, 2021 at 8:41 PM Rob Giuliano via <kb8rco=[email protected]> wrote:
