I also am sensitive to this issue and so have listened many times to Abe tapes on this topic. I hear them saying over and over that animals don't mind dying at all and (more recently) that they remove themselves from their bodies to be sure they don't suffer. Remember the story about Esther's favorite rooster/hen?, "Renegade" who was apparently dead, being carried off by a dog, when Jerry yelled at the dog who dropped the rooster/hen (the more I think about it, the more I think it's a hen) and Renegade jumped up and ran back to Esther's yard. Abe's comment was the Renegade "certainly wasn't going to stick around for the eating part." I believe they say that Renegade had departed to avoid the unpleasantness of being eaten, and returned when it became clear that she wasn't going to be eaten. I don't have any idea what tape(s) that was on but I loved the story and I believe I remember it correctly. I'd guess it was received as a weekly tape about 3-4 months ago but that could be way off. Thanks for the topic. Reminds me of the marvels of nature. Freedom N Joy ----- Original Message -----
