I have some video out there on this topic. It is a 7854 not a 7104 but the mechanism is the same. Here are the 7854 links LED upgrade - 7584 Lab Check in - Zen -----Original Message-----

Does your's work - if so, are there any burns on the CRT. You need to be particularly careful of intensity - there is a warning LED that tells you to turn the brightness doen. It is relatively easy to "split" the unit by lifting the front of the top half up and leaving the rear hinged - completely splitting the two halves is harder. It requires disconnecting multiple cables and is in my mind a "bitch." Getting to anything mounted on the top of the bottom half is something less than fun. Remove the trim covering the top and bottom half separation, then there will be some screws (as I remember) and you can lift the front of the top part. There is a "kick stand" to support the top part. Do you have a manual copy? A second question - did you ever get the 7903A to CA from the east coast? Cheers! Tektronix 7104
Hi all,
It's been a while. I hope everyone's doing just great!? I lucked into a 7104 for the princely sum of $20 ($40 added a couple of 7A19s and a 7B92A came "free," all basically functional as I've seen home). Go swap meets!! Still exploring it and assessing functionality, but so far so good. One thing I'll need to look into is the power light bulb. I think the part number is DS308, and may be a 5V bulb. I can't really confirm this from the SM - has anyone looked at this recently, and can confirm? I think replacing it involves separating the display unit from the base (involving some "kickstand?...") - if anyone can shed any light on the process I'd appreciate it.? Thank you, Radu.? |

Thanks for the advice, I think you are right, especially as there is evidence that someone had been there before me. These scopes and other Teks are more expensive here in the UK and spares are not easy to obtain. The situation is much better in the US. Thanks Paul?

Re: Tek 2430 Oscilloscope self cal not working
Paul,
The amount of labor and possible spare parts to bring back a 2430 may just not be worth it, I'm sorry to say. I would opt for a high serial number 2430A (B030xxx, even seen B042xxx) and in good shape. These go really cheap on ebay (I've seen less than $100), especially if not working and the high s/n ones it is usually the power supply. The high S/N 2430A's will have the latest version of CCD (-05) and you will avoid many issues with the older CCDs. In my experience 2430A with CCD before? -03 will be problematic, so forget the 2430. --Victor |

All,
Artek Manuals continues operation by Linda, Office Mgr / Dave's wife. I've been incontact with her, working through issues to catch up on orders. Orders made via eBay are being filled.? Orders via the website have some delayed, so if you have placed an order but haven't received it or heard back from email let me iknow and it will be added to the follow-up list.? I'm in regular contact. If you need to contact Linda directly, send me a PM and I'll provide the phone number. It's not advisable to post private phone #'s to the list and understandably it's a difficult time. Regards, Ron Carlson Dallas - |

find out if she is just clearing up Dave's obligations, or, if she wishes to keep the business running as a source of income. I would hate to dump a load of orders into her lap, if she is just trying to clear up Dave's open orders... But, on the other hand, I would hate it even more if we all stayed away, when she was hoping to use the business as a continuing source of income. I would do it myself, but I barely have a relationship with the business... Anyone who actually knows Linda might be better. -Chuck Harris On Sat, 22 Apr 2023 04:23:11 +0100 "David C. Re: Tek 2430 Oscilloscope self cal not working
Paul Tech1
开云体育Hello ? Just an update on my 2430 scope. Further investigation has revealed that both input channels appear to be dead. In Ext Cal mode the triggers and RPLT pass perfectly, but during the sequence for the Attenuators, nothing happens. It does not detect that there is a cal voltage at its inputs. I tried a Cold Start setting, this produced an error from the Nvram. Carrying out the EXT cal again brought this back and I could then access other settings on the scope, but no trace appeared. Still the scope would not go past the first Voltage (0.2V) on the Cal for the Attenuators. No other faults, everything is passed. ? So looking closely at the input side PCB, it looks as someone has been there before. There are markings around the fixing screws on the heatsink amplifier modules for the channels and I wonder if the hybrid modules could also be suspect on the input sockets. What’s the best way forward on this? A pity really as the scope is in very good cosmetic condition and the CRT seems fair. But if its going to be an tricky and expensive job, I may have to think again! ? ? Kind Regards ? Paul ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Paul Tech1 via groups.io

Re: Uneven trace brightness in tektronix 547 with transformer swap.
Hi,
I doubt it is the transformer, or your replacment exercise... The first place I would go is the many mechanical switches. They can't help but be corroded by now. A little careful application of deoxit to all of the metal contact surfaces... No, don't hose the switch down with the stuff, just a dot on each wiping surface. I use the deoxit bottle with a needle applicator. After that, I would look at the various metal can transistors that plug in. They are selectively going bad these days... Tin whiskers, appears to be the problem... They usually show a short between the can and the base or emitter. The can is directly connected to the collector. They can sometimes be fixed by applying a safe voltage, from the collector to the offending terminal, with a few tens of milliamps of current behind it. 547's are also having failures in their tunnel diode triggers. The transformer problems I found when I was in the development phase were typically arc over problems, and only happened when the transformer was being operated way outside of its normal operating range... I tested at about 2x the normal anode voltage. Also, look at the winding opposite to where the lead wires come out. It must be clear of the core. It took me a long time to realize that I needed to end the wires short of the coil edge. Typically I fixed the problem by coating that section with polystyrene glue. There was no observed problem with moisture gain. -Chuck Harris On Sat, 15 Apr 2023 07:39:20 -0700 "boombox666" <squantmuts@...> wrote: Hello all, |
Uneven trace brightness in tektronix 547 with transformer swap.
Hello all,
Before I start with the problem mentioned in the topic title, a bit of a context story: I am downsizing my collection a bit so I am putting my 544 oscilloscope on sale. Years ago I let the high voltage transformer be rewound by Chuck Harris. After that the problem of dissapearing trace went away and the oscilloscope was usable. I also have a 547 with an original transformer, strangely enough this one does not show the dreaded lossy transformer problem. I do want to keep my 547 in working order I deceided to swap the high voltage transformers between the oscilloscopes. The 547 shows a good trace as usual but at a few speeds you see a strange effect, the trace lights, dims and then lights again. This manifests around the 1ms 2ms per second divisions settings. I have added the pictures to the photo album. Unfortunatly, the 544 I cant test anymore. I did not turn it on for a good few years and when I turned it on, the fan started rotating only slowly so the grease is a bit gummed up. And then I heard a loud pop/click after the high voltage relay kicked in. Before the click I did see a normal trace. I quickly turned it off again. Before I start swapping transformers to and from, as it is a bit of a chore, has anybody seen this problem before? Is it due to the swap or has some other problem developed? Maybe the newly rewound HV transformer is defective or needs some time to "dry out" as it was sitting in the 544 for a long while without being used. Thank you for any ideas/suggestions. |
