Yes BT1800 is battery on this particular scope you are working on Keeper style. ?If you didnt have Keeper style then on that same board there would be 2 ea Dallas NVRAM chips ?that handle the data backup. But they are in a differant location. ?One style or the other but not both.

Hello again Craig, ? I need to ensure that battery I was looking at was the right one. Is it a small square cube with ¡°keeper cell¡± printed on it. This was on the second lower board. This read 3.7v. or is there another one which the manual refers to a BT1800? Where is that located?it not clear from the manual. then follow thru what they were dealing with. This is a fairly recent thread in Jan 2022.? It goes thru many steps some good and others had to be redone multiple times. ?You really need a stable DC power supply that can help you go thru some external cal steps voltages just to help during digging thru this. ?Its just +DC voltages not Square waves? In my notes I didnt find any other details ?except what I tracked down on the one I was working on. That was the old way, Today I make notes on everything I check and end results. ?I highly recommend you do this so you can look back at what you¡¯ve done.? If you dont get the extended diagnostics page loaded on bootup. Dont try Self Cal or get concerned about UnCal. ? ?Select channel 1 and then push Aquire button , After that turn the CH1 position CCW then CW to see if you get a trac? on the screen. ?? Did you check voltage test points on th A13 side card?

Hi Craig & Tom ? Checked the LI cell, it seems healthy at 3.7V. There is a large 1 Farad cap that¡¯s ok too.? Strange no fails showing on start up. Self cal will not complete. On initiation, the screen goes blank and the +/_ alternates on the trigger section. Then returns after about 10 secs or so to the extended diagnostics screen. But still uncald. Looks unmolested inside, but what a complex scope!? Craig, did you have errors that led you to suspect the U440 chip? ¨C A RAM Chip? ? Kind Regards ? Paul ?

I has surgury on my dominate arm last week so spelling and grammer maybe ?a little off as Im not very good left handed.

The 2430 and 2430a have battery backed ram. Either with a static ram memory with a Li cell or a Dallas nvram with internal cells. If they are dead, the cal will not complete.

Can you confirm if it is a 2430 or a 2430a and the serial number?

Ok, further tests revealed that the self cal is definitely not completing. One initiated, the display "running" appears, but instead of running for approx 10 secs it stays running. No errors or fails appear. Because no "pass" is achieved the scope won't operate. Manual states " return to qualified personel for service" in this case! What could this be?

Hi Craig, thank you for the advice. I will try this. I have the manual already and have been studying that. Strange how all the tests pass but no traces, the on screen cursors are there and the cursors appear too. The settings of the attenuators and timebase values are displayed also.? As far as I can tell, until the self cal is passed the scope will not operate. Also in Ch 1 mode, that are some vertical wide bars on screen but not in Ch2. Strange one!?

For pickup. Boxes are free. 7613 and 7L12 manual say $20 each? Working near as I can tell. I have no interest in digging deeper (again). Can't see me ever getting back to this. Needs a good home adoption.--

Just joined this forum. I am Paul from the UK. I am a EX TV/Audio/Video engineer now working in the broadcast industry.
I? restore vintage color TV sets from the 1970s and 80s in my spare time. However after I had a problem with my 2225 Tektronix scope, I got? an interest in repairing scopes too.
Currently I have a 2235 and a 2235A, also a Fluke PM3082.?
Shortly I will have a 2232, but that has many parts missing so will be a challenge to get spares for it and maybe get it working again.
