Re: Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
I probably have had most every part fail at some point... just not a yellow RIFA X2 cap. I still am suspicious of them... given all the folks buzzing about them. There are problems when I race my

Re: Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
Chuck- I unfortunately has them go in a HP? 6236 supply...it had been in use for a few hours when ...holly @#$% the smoke and stench....had to air out the house...worst/best part the power supply

Re: Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
I'll throw in a outlier for you.? I have had a RIFA style cap fail.? I think it was on a 7904.? Lotsa smoke, needed to air out the lab.? 120 volt land (Florida, but about 124 volts nominal). Not

Re: Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
Sadly, I lost the phrase "In the USA" from "But rarely fail" in my editing... I have heard of plenty of RIFA capacitors failing in the 240V land, especially in the UK where mains voltage inflation has

Re: Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
My experience is with 2*2465 and 1*2445b, in 240V land. All different ages from different sources. Both 2465s emitted a big plume of smoke after 30s, due to the input RIFAs. One series resistor also

I guess I could help you with a smart alec: RTFM. In the back of the manual, they tell you the size dummy load you need to operate the inverter without the regulator board, and size dummy load you

Maybe y'all can help. I'm trying to fix a 2445 power supply
I posted this on tekscopes but nobody seemed interested in helping in any way, not even a smartaleck comment. Nothing. Maybe y'all can help. Can anyone tell me how to safely test the power supply out

That's a terrific idea! Years ago I hacked a coil winding machine using an obsolete dot matrix printer mechanism and a microcontroller. It does a nice universal winding but the biggest problem I

Hi Roy, Don't over think this! I used Scotch Permanent Double Sided Tape that came in 1/2" x 250" disposable hand held dispenser thingies, and is marked as "Photo Safe". It is double sided tape, meant

Hi David, My real winder was much more than that, and my computerized winder even further. However, if you are going to wind only one transformer, having to turn a crank 733 times, over several days,

Where 'double-stick' = double-sided: referring to tape with adhesive on both sides Then, you can get double-sided polyamide tape. (not saying you need that... and not saying you don't want that.) The

I'm saving your post in my notes. I agree with everything. Great idea on the double-stick tape. I wish I'd thought of that. I also ran a bead of Corona Dope at the edge of the tape before each layer

A few things I can supply to encourage you to find your "quiet virtues" as described by Dave, are: 1) use double stick cellophane tape for your inter-winding insulation. The Scotch archival sort meant
