TDS 5xx debug port

I'm trying to repair a very stubborn TDS-520 fails on testing the proc and acquisition boards. Major capacitor leakage inside the unit. After a thorough clean and recap the unit this fails on both boards. Further research showed a track under a resistor that was broken. I repaired the broken track but it still isn't working correctly.

I found out there's a debug port: J40 (board edge connector). Information in the internet about this debug port is fragmented and far from complete. I'm trying to get this sorted out to a complete solution.

speaks about connecting an Option 13 (serial/parallel comm board) to this debug port. Separate option 13 boards are hard to find and otherwise quite expensive. It basically is nothing more than a pcb with a MC68681 Dual UART, some logic and 2 d-sub connectors.

Is there any schematic around of the Option 13 board? Or any other circuit that interfaces between the scope and the serial port of a pc?

Thanks.

The only thing I can find in the microfiche is a reference to the Option 13 RS-232/CENTRONICS Hardcopy Interface Instruction Manual TEK PN: 070-8567-00 for servicing the option. ?What is interesting is it seems my file is missing the manual on fiche as I cannot find it in ANY of the TDS Family of literature.

Maybe someone else could help using that info.

Cheers,

David

Somebody repaired a TDS series scope that had major trace damage and it also had propagated to the logic chips. It involved repairing traces and replacing some of the damaged chips. Probably tracing some of the logic chips to see if the levels are ok or the voltages are present on the vcc of the chips. I don't remember where I read it, probably on the official Tek forums.
Good luck with the repair.

Sorry don't notice that the link you mad ein the post is the same of mine. By the way you just only ?need a motorola?MC68681 converter to convert the parallel data in to serial. YOu could ask to tek for the schematics, eventually they could sen you. Also you could do a little bit of reverse engeniring.
Best regards, Alberto.

I enclose, which hopefully will help someone, the pdf files with the opt13 and console interface schematics for the TDS scope family.
Of course these are not original Tektronix schematics? but the result of my reverse engineering so I can't guarantee that they are errors free.

Thanks, Giampi. This will give me a very nice starting point.

Apologies for the gravedig, but does anyone have this pinout for the J40 Debug port to Option 13 adapter? Seems the Tek website links no longer work...

I'm currently designing a USB debug adapter and want to check the pinouts to make sure mine are correct.

Thanks!
Jared

Tek really messed up when they killed the old site. Maybe if more people complained (I did, a bit) they would backtrack ?

I dumped all my notes and screenshots to my website,
and here's also a copy of the important bit:
****
Console port - Option 13 Board - (Signal Name)
A10 - 1 - (D24)
B10 - 3 - (D25)
A9 - 5 - (D26)
B9 - 7 - (D27)
B8 - 2 - (D28)
A7 - 4 - (D29)
B7 - 6 - (D30)
A6 - 8 - (D31)

B1 - 21 - (A1)
A1 - 23 - (A2)
B2 - 25 - (A3)
A2 - 22 - (A4)
+5V (B6) - 24 - (A5)
GND (A3/A8) - 26 - (A6)

B5 - 12 - (INT#)
B4 - 15 - (IOCS#)
A5 - 16 - (SYSRESET#)
A4 - 17 - (RNW)

A3, A8 - 9, 13, 19 - (GND)
B6 - 10, 20 - (+5V)

B3 - not connected

not connected - 11 - (DS#)
not connected - 14 - (DSACK0#)
not connected - 18 - (AS#)

Notes:
- As displayed in the "TDS520B Mod CM" service manual, On the console port "B" is the top side of the processor board.
- Signals A5 (Pin 24) and A6 (Pin 26) need to be set to +5V and Gnd to make sure the serial port of the option 13 board is selected.
- The 3 ground pins (9, 13, 19) should be connected on the option 13 board, so normally you only need to connect one of these to the console port connector.
Nevertheless I connected them all.
- The 2 +5V pins (10, 20) should be connected on the option 13 board, so normally you only need to connect one of these to the console port connector.

Perfect! Thanks a bunch for all that info!

I also am a bit miffed that Tek nerfed their forums, there was good info there, they could have at least archived it.....

Jared.

It looks like archive.org captured at least some of the threads you
