AA 501A Parts, DM 501A Probes

Greetings all!

I am looking for the INPUT RANGE knob and right side panel for my AA 501A.

Anybody know of any possible sources?

I am also looking for recommendations on a probe set for my DM 501A, including the temperature probe. Good gracious¡$100+ on eBay for a P6601. Is that really where it¡¯s at?

Thanks for any info/feedback.

Cory Oace

Cory,

Regarding Tek temperature probe prices, a bit of patience and saved searches on eBay can get you a good deal. For example, I picked up three Tek temperature probes for just over $USD 50 in May. However, it took several weeks of sifting through daily search results to find them. I just ignored what I thought were the high-priced ones.

As for probes, you can hardly go wrong with the Probe Master 8000 series: 8026S is standard banana jack style kit at < $USD 35.

And checking your ebay search results email notifications early in the morning, hopefully before most people with similar searches get to it, and sometimes you will be rewarded by finding among the results a fresh new listing of just what you where looking for with a Buy It Now Price and within or even bellow your price range expectations. It happens, and quite often has worked for me. But patience is definitively the key ingredient.

Thank you both for the ideas/input on the probes. Reading between the lines I am hopefully understanding correctly the P6601 temperature probe is indeed the only option for the DM 501A, so I¡¯m watching and waiting for the right opportunity there.

And thanks for the recommendation on the Probe Master probe set¡looks perfect.

Anybody have any recommendations on a good source to check for the AA 501A parts I¡¯m looking for?

One of my postponed projects is the construction of temperature probes
for my DM5xx meters - mostly because I have some 2 pin Lemo connectors
and a DM501A with no probe.

My research, so far, has turned up the following:

Module Probe Probe type
DM501 P6058 diode connected transistor (also P6601????)
DM501A P6601 Platinum RTD
DM502 P6439 diode connected transistor
DM504 P6602 Platinum RTD
DM511 P6602
DM5110 P6602

and Heraeus RTD sensors can be bought for a reasonable price (around
$5.00 or less) from Digikey.

Likely no surprise to most if not all, Sphere in Canada has the AA 501A parts I need, with some caveats: the knob is a dark grey type rather than light grey as originally fitted (no big deal there), and the side panel is missing the 1/4 turn latches. I have a separate thread I started about tips for removing or repairing those, or if there are possibly replacements available.

Anyway, just wanted to follow up.

Thanks again for all the helpful info!

will the side panels from other tm5xx instruments fit the AA501?

They seem pretty unique¡two of the 1/4-turn latches along the top¡an insulation layer on the inside¡none of the dozen or so different modules I have here have the same type of side panel. Sphere had the exact part, just no latches, but I think I¡¯ve been able to remove ones from other side panels to retrofit. This was my first dealing with Sphere. Susan and Walter were very helpful and the prices were very reasonable.

For what it¡¯s worth, I bought a P6601 temp probe¡it wasn¡¯t cheap, but I¡¯m pleased with the purchase¡$80 shipped for the probe brand new in sealed package with all original accessories and manual.

Congratulations.? I'm looking for one, as well if anyone happens to come across one at a reasonable price point.?

Sincerely,

Christopher Juried

So, a *sort* of related question, can anybody recommend a ¡°can¡¯t go wrong¡± set of female BNC to female BBC patch cables as well as banana to banana patch cables?

Cory Oace

Amphenol If they have the cable you need. Tend to be a little on the pricy side. $20 for a longish BNC but one of the top shelf brands before you get in to the exotic high frequency cables and interconnects. Mouser and Digikey should stock them. For banana do you need shielding?. I make my own with meter lead so they are SUPER flexible. Unless I need shielding then I need to look at other wire.
