carb heat door

I am looking for examples of carb heat door fabrication. I have the Max aero cowl and Brian Alley's scoop. any photos or drawing (or hand sketches) would be appreciated.?

Thanks
Dan Coffey

since mine is a tri-gear I couldn't get Brians filter system to work for me so I made this.......a bit complicated and non filtered but it works for me.

Dan,
Here are a few pictures.? I also have the same cowl and Brian's airbox and air scoop.? ?
  • One of these pics is the bottom view of the top of the airbox showing the carb heat flapper valve on the left.? ?When I pull on the carb heat this flapper blocks the outside air and it then draws from the heat muff around the cross over tube on the exhaust.?
  • Another pic shows the lever arrangement for the flapper.? ?You can kind of see the flapper through the side of the air box.
  • The last pic shows the actuator cable attached to the flapper arm.
This has worked very well for me and is simple.? ?Fresh ram air and also "carb heat air"? goes through the round K&N air filter.? ?
Hope that helps.
Keith

Keith, I like that set up, the heat muff is a cool idea.

Thanks Alex,
?
For those interested,? the carb heat muff is different than a cabin heat muff.? This one is open on the top (closed on both ends) so it can draw air in and around the exhaust pipe but also to allow for heat to escape when the carb heat is not operating.? I bought both my cabin heat muffs and this carb heat muff from Robbins Wings but I think they are out of business or have changed names.? ? ?I have 2 cabin heat muffs in series and have plenty of heat.? Yesterday I flew and it was 8 degrees F? outside air temp but we were plenty warm.? ?Now keeping the oil temp and cylinder head temps up at that temp is another story.

Keith;
?To control your CHT¡¯s You may want to think about closing off the intake air. This works better than adjusting the out flow of air. It also helps with cooling drag.

John,
I thought about closing off part of the intake air but don't really want to put any tape over the openings.? There are other options like a removable air dam but haven't got around to it.? I just try to not fly unless I have to when it is below 20 F.? ?
?
Thanks
