Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
Heres the data sheet for the Jabiru 450 which is their biggest plane. Empty weight is halfway down. Wing span is 30ft/120 ft2 so it uses a lot of material. Basically a C172. Its mostly E glass. If it

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
Wow, 750 Empty Weight. I¡¯ll believe it when I see it. My Dad built a W-8 with an 85 Continental and its empty weight was 745. JohnHaedtler

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
John you are right. It's not an easy thing to do. It's impossible with a mixed structure like this situation.? I was looking at the bare fuselage weights people were reporting in the TW compendium.

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
I have yet to see a composite aircraft come in with a low empty weight. They all claim it to be light weight, but the truth is different! Sorry Facts are facts! John Haedtler

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
Sounds like they were building a boat not a plane! The CF material would be in the 200g/m2 range. With epoxy it would be 3-4oz ft2. There would be very thin foam stringers molded into the skins in the

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
My W10, when purchased had a fully covered fuselage of fiberglass. It was so heavy the empty weight was 1310. That was when I ripped everything off and started from the tube structure in rebuilding. I

The only Steve Wittman built airplane still privately owned is N374. Originally W9L built in 1957. Registration expired but apparently new registration applied for. Last known to be in Concord NC.

Re: All Composite W10 anyone???
I never suggested covering a Tailwind fuselage with composite skin. The Tailwind shape makes that impractical. The one exception is that I have considered and am still considering covering the

Re: Design Idea for Access paneling
I have the triangular access panel on the bottom also.? The slightly oval hole is where the elevator tubes (where the horns are attached) exit the fuselage.

Re: Design Idea for Access paneling
Greg, Sounds like you are progressing well.? It does seem to take forever.? I made my access panels similar to what Mike mentioned.? I also used polycarbonate? (Lexan) for the "ring" and wrapped

Mike thank you for the feedback! It sounded like it would work, but I'd rather be sure and check w those who have experiance first.

Dan-I would use minimum number of blind rivets-just enough to line up the door skin. My door rivets are working to the point I am considering new door skins with a maximum of 6 rivets each door. I did

Hi Greg, I think your idea will work.? I used Lexan instead of Plexiglas for all of my fabric rings.? For the Tailwind horn access I used a square Lexan ring and wrapped the fabric and fabric glued
