Re: Covering material quantities

Not trying to push their product but I used the Superflite system and it was sooo much easier. the main reason was during Oshkosh airventure, they gave participating individuals a $500 voucher toward the purchase of their product and it was on par with other system prices. One coat primer and it included the UV protection then the topcoat (color) and it still looks wet even after 10 yrs mostly hangared though. I used their complete system (glue) with Dacron from ACS

Did not say he recommended it just that he liked it.? Didn't really see a need for the capital letters.

Thanks for the link Keith!? Great builder log.? This is the kind of thing we look for when doing an airworthiness inspection.? Some are not nearly as good as? yours!

Before deciding on Stits I suggest you research some of JC's comments on covering.? Save yourself a lot of time with AirTech or Loehle systems.? Results are excellent.

Jim I used 36 yds of Ceconite fabric, C-102-3,
7 gallons of poly brush,
5 gallons of poly spray,
4 gallons of polytone plus a quart of grey for interior,
3 quarts of polytak cement, and7 gallons of reducer
?
I also used 5 rolls of 2"" tape,
1 roll of 4" tape,
2 rolls of 3 " tape and
1 roll of bias cut tape
I bought a yard of 1.7 oz fabric to reinforce inspection rings, and drain grommets and a roll of rib lace cord and a roll of reinforcing tape
?
Hope this helps.

P.S. I used a HVLP spray gun and I think that cut down on the coating use quite a bit.

If you haven't built the fuselage yet making the firewall station the same as a Tailwind would save a lot of work.

Re: Elevator pushrod

The W8 fuselage drawing shows tube centerlines. The W10 drawings show outside tube dimensions. The Baraboo? W10's were built from W8 drawings with penciled in changes. I measured the cabin dimensions on at least two Clement airplanes and confirmed cabin dimensions are same as W8.?

Re: Elevator pushrod

I made a lot of small changes in the elevator controls. One major one was to use an idler which allows two separate tubes. The idler requires a larger fuselage cross tube to mount the idler fittings on. I'm pretty sure I? increased the horn dimension by 1/8". I may have offset the idler a bit to one side to increase clearance on push tubes.?
For those still building the basic fuselage the upper diagonal aft of station 111 can be offset slightly to the left at both ends.?
For the VR3 builders did they ever revise the tubes to conform to the changes made to correct dimensional errors. The major one is that cabin width dimensions should be tube centerline, NOT outside dimensions.?
I tried to discuss this with the VR people probably 20 years ago. They would not talk to me. I consider VR a total fraud.?

Re: Sheet metal questions

Since this is the last time I¡¯ll build anything most likely, I wanted to press the easy button just once in my life. I ordered a new Titan O-340 which was delivered in June after 18 months on order. I just ordered the Sensenich 3 blade ground adjustable prop. I was considering the Catto but I wasn¡¯t real confident in their recommendation for pitch and diameter. They basically kept quoting the prop for an O-320 Tailwind. As far as I know, I¡¯m the only idiot who is building a Tailwind with a 340 so it¡¯s a guess as to prop selection. I didn¡¯t want to get into a situation where I¡¯m shipping props back and forth to CA to get it right.?

Re: Sheet metal questions

Dan,?

I hear ya about the pictures, I have slowed down computer updates as well. ?Not so sure I¡¯ll finish before you¡my progress has slowed a bit, some of it due to the head scratching moments on how to finish this and that, some of it life! ?I¡¯m hoping to get a lot done this winter but we¡¯ll see. ?

What prop did you end up going with and what engine?

Matt
