Nicely done Jerry! Good balance with Alnitak and the other bright stars.
?
I can commiserate regarding poor weather. Got only a few good hours during January in PA, and a bit of H-alpha from home one night in March; none in ?February.

Mark & Lee,
?
Thanks for the support! It was nice to find a clear night to shoot AP. We need to begin going to Salem again.

Great Job! Your image looks fantastic.

Re: Photo Horsehead Nebula.jpg uploaded #photo-notice

Great Horsehead/Flame, Jerry.
Glad you were able to get out during those rare clear nights.
Mark

Re: Photo Horsehead Nebula.jpg uploaded #photo-notice

Thanks for the kind words!? It is the best I can currently accomplish with my nascent processing skills and just a little over 2 hours of integration time.? More time would give me the additional detail and colors that I pursue and that opportunity appears lost for this year as Orion is on its way out for the season and the weather forecast is not indicating even partial clear skies until next Wednesday at the earliest.
?
Regardless, this is a great group and I truly appreciate your words of support!? It's what keeps us all going as the weather and complexities of our hobby conspire to make it challenging.
?
Thanks again!
?
Jerry

Re: Salem tonight?

Alan,
?
Your previous comment captured it well as in and atmosphere that "wasn¡¯t super transparent and seeing seemed rough".? As I posted, I'm running out of time to capture my intended image as it is lower in the sky to start and drops quickly lower, so there's more atmospheric blurring, attenuation causing loss of contrast, sapping of color, etc.? That accompanied by the moon and the gradients I had to remove today which compromised the image further, and finally, exacerbation of too little data with accompanying noise.? So, to stretch as much as I wanted to acquire some detail in the dark portions, I blew out some of the highlights somewhat in the Flame Nebula portion.? And too little data also means I didn't get much of the blue wispiness around the brighter stars that I've seen in images from Hubble.
?
I'll post my image here in a few minutes and you'll be able to see what I mean.
?
Jerry

Curious too what you made of the seeing itself. I was at 1955mm and had meh FWHMs.?

Re: Salem tonight?

I did get out last night, but had to drive to a friend's to be able to shoot low enough.? Being surrounded by high trees mean I can only shoot high overhead. It was a last minute decision when I was able to finish some tax filing prep.
?
I got another hour on the Horsehead Nebula, which means I only have a little more than 2 hours on it totally.? I would have liked more, but it wasn't quite dark enough until 8Pm and was getting low in the sky by 9:30pm, perhaps about 25 degrees above the horizon.? I'm stacking right now to see what the 2 nights bring, but I'm sure it's not enough and the image will have quite a bit of noise in it.? As many here have said, we've had so many cloudy nights this year; the winter offerings haven't got much more life left.

Clear beautiful sky in VT with a nice crescent moon adjacent to The Pleiades.?
In the 20s and windy, though.?
