Re: TAAS and SAS

I'm up for a joint get together. I also support finding a place and time when wherever we meet is not crowded ortho noisey.

All the best for 2025,
Leslie

Jeff Dunn (Shoreline Astronomical Society President and TAAS member) has suggested a TAAS and SAS social get together in February. ?This will allow some cross pollination between clubs, share some ideas, and start the exit of the winter Astro-Hibernation. ?A location between our clubs, Old Lyme or Saybrook could be found. ?Jeff proposed Friday or Saturday February 21-22. It can be at a happy-hour time on Friday, or a little earlier on Saturday.?
Our February meeting would be a day or two beforehand, so this would an alternative to it, unless there is some immediate business.
What does everybody think?

Thanks very much. I will use this response to your email to post my first reminder about TAAS dues. Despite trying to find a simple way for people to pay I am once again going to ask anyone who wants to join TAAS as a dues paying member to send a check or money order to me, made out to either TAAS or Thames Amateur Astronomical Society. Of course you can pay in person with cash at any event I¡¯m at. The mailing address is:

George Blahun

I will send email receipts. While the dues are $15 per year anyone wishing to give an additional amount may do so and it will be greatly appreciated.

George,?
A bit delayed in following up, however, I am putting a check in the mail tomorrow for my 2025 TAAS Dues.
Thanks so much,

Yes, I saw the notice from Niels. They aren¡¯t saying much about it, could be bigger or could be smaller.
HNY to all TAASers.

Thanks for this delightful holiday treat! Jay

Re: Happy New Year

Thanks Mark & Deb! A special RABBIT RABBIT for 2025 January 1st and a Happy New Telescope Year to you all!? I just read in the TTS note that a new mount will be forthcoming in 2025. Sorry George but hey, nothing wrong with a new big brother, right?

And plane tickets and packer shippers and a tolerance for missing parts with no recourse to anyone.?

I suppose if you lived nearby it could be worth picking through it all but it¡¯s an online bid so it¡¯s sight unseen and anything you actually wanted could be bid out already.
?
And very poorly documented goods. Generic descriptions; what looks to me like some stuff is reboxed goods. Maybe someone else¡¯s equipment (repairs; etc) mixed in but unidentified? (Has anyone heard of anyone getting contacted to get their repairs back? Or did Meade carefully clear that all out in advance?)

As unmanaged in liquidation as they were as a going concern. Caveat emptor.?

I'd be interested in going in on a binocular lot of say 7x50 or so.?
I would want one, so 1/4 of the overall cost of a lot of 4, say.
I'm not an equipment guy, like so many other club members, so I would leave it to youse to select the equipment lot/s to bid on.

Anyone else? Maybe some of our newer members need a start-up tool?

Until the layoffs, I was seriously comparing Meade's SCTs with Celestron's attempting to ascertain which way to go for something of much longer FL than my Esprit. So sorry to see them go.
