Re: 11/21 CKMS Canceled
Pretty nice problems to have when you have too many people RSVP.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi All,?
?
?I have not heard from Cheryl, our school contact, since Tuesday so I just called the school.?
The woman who answered said she heard something about the astronomy event being canceled but could not confirm. She transferred me to Cheryl¡¯s extension and I left a voicemail.?
I gave Cheryl my phone number and asked her to call, text, or email me by noon. I said I needed to let our club members know.?
I said if I hadn¡¯t heard from her by noon I would assume they decided to not go with an indoor presentation and I will send out an email to the club canceling the event.?
Unfortunately, in her final email to me, the ¡°possibly cancel¡± comment is not very definitive. It is now Thursday and she said she would make a decision by Wednesday afternoon, but I haven¡¯t heard from her.?
Therefore, I will give her an hour to get back to me and then I will give you a definite decision on our part whether I hear from her or not.?
Here are our two most recent emails.?
Tuesday, November 19
Hi Cheryl,
I think you are right about Thursday¡¯s weather.?
The NOAA Thursday hourly forecast shows rain starting Wednesday evening and not?ending until Saturday. Not too promising for astronomy.?
We have our monthly TAAS meeting?this Thursday night. It is in-person at Connecticut College and we expect a good turnout of TAAS members. We will check with the members on their available
dates and get back to you on Friday with some alternate dates.?
Unless, of course, the weather forecast is completely wrong and we see you?Thursday evening?for telescope observing!?
Tuesday, November 19
Hi Deb and Mark,
The weather is not looking great for Thursday. ?
I think we have too many people signed up to try and hold it in the Media Center.? Do you have alternate dates that would work for you?
I will wait until tomorrow afternoon to make a decision about the weather and possibly cancel.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Thanks for the kind comments. I learned early as a photographer to pick out the best shots, and forget the rest. :-) Also, enjoyed your two additional galaxy photos. The Virgo collection reminded me of a great night observing with Mark at his VT house in the Spring of 2019. Viewing with his 17-in Dob, we identified many galaxies in and around Markarian's Chain. I recall we had logged around 90+ total objects before losing count in the wee hours. Gerry On Nov 18, 2024, at 10:15 AM, Alan Sheiness via groups.io <sheinessam@...> wrote: |

Alan,? Thanks for sharing your photos with the TAAS members. The ones on your website are great, too. I encourage other TAAS members to visit it and attend one of the Lyme Land Trust events at the Trail 53 Observatory.? Re: Alan Sheiness Images
Thank you, very kind. My two photography platforms are a 14¡± ACF with an 0.62x Optec reducer, and an 82mm Evolux with a flattener that is piggybacked on the 14¡±.
?
The 82mm started out as a guidescope for when I¡¯m shooting through the 14¡± (my Starlock bit the dust last spring), but then I began shooting wide fields thru it and I like that added flexibility.?
I use a 2600MC Pro in either case (and a 120MM Mini for guiding). Virtually all shots in either case are 10s or 30s subs in the 14¡±, and 30s or 60s subs in the 82ED. Typical integrations 30-60 minutes total. Siril, Starnet+ and Photoshop for stacking and post. I also have an ASI678 if I do any planetary.
All sits on a steel pier inside a roll off roof so polar alignment is permanent. From time to time I tweak the PEC training.? --

Hi Alan,
?
I just noticed that you recently added a gallery with some really nice images to [email protected].
?
I particulary like the detail in galaxys taken with the 14-in, M81, M101, M51 and the M65 & M66 pair. The Iris and Bubble nebulae are also excellent, but all are well done.
?
Sorry that I have not been able to attend any of the Lyme observing sessions, so we have not yet met. I'll get there some time.
