Centerboard Troubles

Hi Patrick,

Some further thoughts about the T27 and it's centerboard.? There was a company (tartanparts.com - I believe) that was selling a replacement for around $1500 or so.? You don't want to lose your centerboard.? I for one, believe that your board is (hopefully) stuck in the trunk.? If the centerboard were to fall out of the boat, that would mean that the support pin (or fulcrum) that holds the board in the trunk is broken or compromised as well.? If, by some means the centerboard managed to escape your boat it will be worth it to you to hire a diver and take a GPS reading near the spot you think it might have gone missing.? If you don't want the centerboard, I'm sure someone on this list might buy it from you.? Sort of a rare, valuable commodity.??

I am with the others that say that the T27 sails beautifully with the centerboard.? The boat makes more leeway (drift) without the centerboard and it turns much easier with the board deployed.? That said, I believe we did well in a race where we never deployed the centerboard.? If you race your T27 the centerboard is sort of the secret weapon.? You can also steer the boat by adjusting the centerboard.

Best,

Good Evening,

?

My cable for my daggerboard has rusted off.? I am going to dive on her tomorrow to see if the board has dropped out of the trunk and is in the down position.? Has anyone else had this happen?? What are alternatives or what has been tried before:

  • Feed a new cable down thru the trunk and re-attached to the board if she has come out of the trunk…what attachment pieces would be needed with the cable at the attachment point?
  • Temporarily get the dagger board back up….by running a line or multiple lines under the board and securing to the rub rail?? Will the daggerboard saw thru those lines?? Once I have the lines under the daggerboard, is it possible to raise the board from the deck?
  • Could I have her lifted out of the water and just remove the board all together?

?

What have others done both successfully and unsuccessfully so I can weigh my options intelligently?? Any and all advice are welcome.

?

Patrick
