Geoff, I'm with you about Facebook.

Although occasionally I pinch my nose, jump in, and look for info on specific subjects, and try to get out without being distracted by the site's stream of crap....

Anyway, we have this list, let's use it.

right, because ‘this list’ has been Sooooo informative!
averaging about 8 threads per YEAR! (With VERY few posts per thread)
?If you are relying on this group for info, ideas, and news about T-TRAK…?
?I’m not advocating for Facebook in any way, but it’s pretty darned easy to filter your preferences so that you ‘see’ only the group posts that interest you and not a ‘stream of crap’ (with which I completely agree!- at best, if not filtered to your preferences, the odious crap that can easily pervade Facebook is voluminous!!!)
?However, as I said, it’s a simple matter to go to your settings and make the changes that allow only the groups that appeal to you to be seen in your ‘feed’.
That way you’re not inundated with useless drivel.
I’m with you on wanting to avoid Facebook/Meta and its BS, but, again, relying on this group for T-TRAK news, info, techniques, standards, etc. is akin to living as a hermit in a cave. It’s a yahoo death rattle.

Bruce,

Your response is why many don’t want to go to fb. Attitude. I’d rather be a hermit than have people talk to others this way. Fb is designed to make it reactive place and thus I don’t find it a polite, collaborative environment to spend any time in, even when filtered heavily. I get plenty of Ttrak news and info thru nrail outside of fb and talking with follower ttrakers.

Guys, I thought we were in this to have fun.? The latest comments reinforces the very problem you are discussing about Facebook.? From my perspective someone asked for help.? A suggestion was provided.? The recipient seemed to take offense to "you need".? I do not believe it was a demand, it was a suggestion that the page could provide the assistance being asked.? Then all H*** seems to have broken loose.? Like when I asked, as a relative newbie, about heights off of the table.? My primary club uses 4".? In recent traveling I had seen 3 1/2", 2 ". no inches, and whoever set up the first module would establish the height, with all being level being the standard.? I asked if there was a National standard at the conventions.? One would have thought I had started WW III.? That, and this, type of discussion is a huge turnoff.? I am a member of several modelling and historical (e.g. North Africa campaign, ancient Rome, etc.) from which I get a lot of hints, suggestions, and help.? Yes, at times a J$$$ gets involved.? I choose to ignore them rather than waste my time with them.? Lets chill a bit.? Remember, HAVE FUN.?

As a member from the UK,I use both io and fb with little or no problem, I find this bitching? about fb a bore, can we please get on with the business of having fun with T-trak.?

Folks, As I understand it, you don't need to "join" FB to access posts that are on there. If this is correct, then one can find information without participating in any conversations and the ads and spam should not affect you. If it doesn't work this way, then I agree FB is a PIA and a waste of my time. Brian

Just tried that with a different browser, where I'm not logged into FB, and it works, thx.

Going directly to the group is a good idea even if you have an account and are logged in, actually.

FB's algorithms have their own idea of what you want to see, and even if you've joined a group, activity on that group may not show up unless you go looking for it specifically.

It would be nice if there was a way to "pin" a group so that they always show up.? I don't think there's a way to do that. Controlling what you see is pretty much their whole business.? If I'm wrong and there *is* a way to do that, someone please tell me.

Geoff, If Fb is not for you (like many others) the by all means don't join, You can read the topics without joining, FB or the group. I was excited about the content and how fast we are growing. Lots of great information and participation. "Need" was a relevant statement not a demand. Why would you get offended or take exception to that? Here is a great resource that aligns the official side and the everyday T-TRAKer, the best blend to keep everyone informed, Call for modules and official participation, Gatherings, Banquets, get-togethers fellowship opportunities etc. Today around seven-in-ten Americans use social media to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information, and entertain themselves. So while you personally do not want to use Social Media? let me share what I know as the Social Media manager for N-Rail. Age groups?18-29 70% use Facebook and 71% use Instagram,?30-49: 77% use Facebook, and 48% use Instagram,?50-64: 73% use Facebook, and 29% use Instagram,?65+: 50% use Facebook, and 13% use Instagram. If you are 65 or older you as likely as not to be on social media but below that demographic it is 7+ in 10! Truth is a lot of people use it for getting their news, information, and fellowshipping and modeling experience. I was only bringing a great resource to the attention of the group.?

Bruce, the group's IO has its purpose it just isn't the same as social media. while 7 in 10 people use Social media for their daily information sources. Unlike social media sites people do not come here for their daily news, or information or to discuss modeling tips and techniques and if they do it is nowhere on the same scale or the same repetition. All we can do is provide the opportunities and hope they see the value of what we are offering,

"I get plenty of Ttrak news and info thru nrail outside of fb and talking with follower ttrakers." Just FYI, the Official T-TRAK page IS NRAIL. and it is well moderated so that when people get out of sorts they are taken care of. If you do not know Bruce then you misunderstand. He Is very passionate about T-TRAK and does some outstanding work. He has done a lot for the community and T-TRAK as a whole, through volunteering his time and talents, His point I believe was not to trash a resource that is nearly 1,000 strong and growing quickly that is already providing resources and talent to its members since you personally do not have any interest in it or experience with it (the new forum). Hopefully in the future you will find it useful. Until then let me know how I can help.
