Switching from Kennedy adapter to RJES
I have run for many trouble free years using the Kennedy adapter.? ?The adapter plate itself is dissolving quite extensively.
I happen to have an rjes bellhousing kit kicking around that I may want to use in the event that the adapter plate is toast.? ? Does anyone know if the subie starter motor has any interference issues w the diff lock assembly?? This is in a syncro. Any info/thoughts are appreciated. |

I would call that surface corrosion, ugly but serviceable & it can be removed.

Marcus, I have the RJES bellhousing.? The starter I use is Subaru part number 23300AA4209L.? It fits well and can be installed/removed with the locker servo in place. Sorry to hear about your adapter. Regards, Patrick On Sun, Oct 1, 2023 at 6:28?AM Markus <markus.benne@...> wrote: Yup, dissolving.? ? Turning to a white powder.? |
How old is that? And what climate are you in? Aluminium shouldn't degrade that fast unless there is a LOT of salty moisture, different metals and bad grounding all leading to that level of degradation. I wonder if there is a way to put a sacrificial 'zinc' somewhere in the mix (like boats do) to minimize the degradation.? Anyone? When I bought my van it had a Kennedy adapter plate from the 90s and it was in horrible shape. Looked like it was sitting at the bottom of the ocean. You could flake big chunks off it with your fingers.? According to the son of the PO (now deceased) the engine and adapter had come from a wrecked van and had sat in the Washington rain for a while.?
Anyway, I bought a new Kennedy plate 4 years ago, it's a new design and? good as new. |
