rear springs

I looked at the digest and many of the rear spring threads are pretty old. Is there new information out there? I am most likely sitting on original springs front and back (84 westie, ej22 conversion, VW transaxle). The rear end really drops when starting out in 1st gear. GoWesty specifically their springs are not for vehicles with engine conversions. Small Car has springs for 'spirited' driving (not sure if I do that). Does anyone have any other recommendations? I did the rear springs in the 84 tin top I have (1.9 WB) this past summer because one broke so I have the bug to do the westie. Thanks.

I replaced my all my springs with the Schwenk about 10 years ago,?2WD. They have been excellent. Then a put an SVX motor in and the rear was sagging a little. I consulted Schwenk directly and they recommended replacing the rears with their?new design. I was able to get a set of rear only from Burley. It didn't help--height?was about the same, so I installed 1/2" of spacers and that is what it took. At the same time I installed a set of Burley's Raflo Shocks. The shocks absolutely?transformed the ride and handling--I was amazed. Other than the engine, the shocks have been the best of?all the mods I have done over the years. Expensive, but worth it.

I installed the 2WD Westy springs from Schwenk along with XHD Bilstiens in spring this year on my 87 2WD Westy, as well as every ball joint, tie rod end, bushing, sway bar with T3's HD bar and end links, and all new hardware everywhere. ?I had a tremendous amout of sag, bouncing, and roll, along with a horrible squeek in the front end. ?After replacing everything the van handles quite well. ?The XHD Bilstiens are a bit harsh of small bumps at higher speeds, but overall pretty nice, I think i will look into T3's adjustable shocks for my next round of suspension fixing. ?I do plan on adding .5-.75" spaces front and rear to bring the overal height up a bit, I am running 225 70r/16s and they can rub on full turn with articulation or a heavy passenger!
