Possible intake manifold swapping

Y’all have way more experience with this than I do. I have a 82 Westy and a 05 Impreza ej25. I have the Kennedy support and adapter. When I put it in originally, it was too tall to clear the lid so on someone’s advice, I’m sorry I don’t remember who’s advice from this group, I built spacers to lower the motor. All said and done, I now have about 4 inches of clearance on the pan. I do have the shorter pan on order but I was wondering if y’all know if there is another intake manifold that I can replace the current setup and remove, or reduce the height of, the 2.5 inch spacers. I don’t have the need, nor spare money, to lift the Vanagon at this time and I live in a small town that fully embraces terrible pot holes. Thanks in advance. John
ps yes I have tried to find the answer on my own but am striking out. ?

My 07 2.5 installation only required 1 inch spacers to fit under the lid. Not sure why your intake is so much taller. I really have not heard of an installation needing more than 1 inch spacers. Maybe share a picture.

Morning John.
I don’t know of any custom intake manifolds for our subs engines other than those offered by vendor Outfront Motors. ?They are beautiful but they ain’t cheap at around $1800 USD.

I don’t see whether they actually reduce the height as compared to your stock intake though.

One other way to allow the engine to ride a bit higher is to hack, scrape, and grind the vanagon engine cover so that the fiberglass or plastic cover frame and foam insulation is reduced, allowing the intake more headroom.

At this point I’m thinking that your planned route of installing a chopped oilpan is going to get you the best clearance.

Best of luck with your project.
Brent

I was in the same boat as you. I used 1 in spacers, then didn't like how low the oil pan was. So i end?up cutting the engine lid, only where needed. After I cut it I made a cover out of aluminum. You don't?realize it when sleeping.?

?
Brent, I was kinda hoping for a stock manifold that my harness would support that was shorter. I don’t know if the Impreza used one just for that model.?
$1800 omg. I know they are aimed at the performance market but wow!

Cole, cutting out the offending lid isn’t an option as I am a big boy at 6’4” and 350+, besides my wife will occasionally camp with me and she is ?very much a princess and the pea kind of sleeper.?
John
Ps I apologize to all for my accidental empty reply earlier. ?

Hey John.
In looking at the pictures that you sent of the top of your intake manifold I noticed that you have several of what must be vacuum lines running above the actual intake. ?Wouldn’t gain you too much but you could definitely reroute those lines to gain some headroom. ?Just a thought.
Best,
Brent
