Hi all – I should have saved this information….didn’t. ? Some time ago (a couple, 3 months?) ago, somebody was kind enough to publish and share a list of known Subaru/Vanagon sellers, repair shops, etc.? Can anybody share this with me one more time? Was it Wayne who compiled the list….? I could be way off. ? I’m in California, Central Coast area, had the conversion done with Cesar and team at California Westys, El Cajon, Ca. He is about 6 hours away, so hoping to find some one more local. And in case you don’t know, retail store GoWesty is about 45 min from my house, but no longer has a repair shop. That said, the repair shop is still nearby, but now independent. However, they do NOT work on Subaru engines. Everything else, yes. ? My info for the sake of completeness: ? Terry Cline Paso Robles CA 805 305 7638 Vanagon: 1987 Vanagon converted to mimic a Westfalia. Pop up, cupboards, water, sink, stove, only thing now missing is the original fridge. Original VW engine converted to the Subaru 2.2L, 1990 – 1995 Legacy, in approximately Nov 2022. ? Thanks Terry

I have similar?issues. But not for the engine. My engine is a freshly remanufactured (major overhaul right down to the toenails) EJ25 that came out of a 2005 OUTBACK. and uses an earlier year Impreza ECM to run things and does so beautifully. Busaru built the harness using my original and adapted the ECM. So no problems so far. Now have 4000 miles on the engine.?
I bought a totaled out 2005 Outback because a tree fell on it. Engine was essentially?good but relatively high mileage so I had it rebuilt.?
Now my concern.?
I'm in Alabama. Last month a tree, in the middle of a beautiful clear calm night, decided to attack my Carat. For reasons known only to God a tree split in half, one half falling on top of the van, completely inverting the metal top and breaking loose and dropping on the floor the whole inside?of the AC SYSTEM, front to back, breaking many of the plastic parts. The van is very drivable. Nothing there got?hurt,?but if it rains and? I drive it, I have?15 gallons of water in the?bathtub on?the roof that?goes?with?me and every time I make a stop I get my windshield?washed. Not fun if you are at a four lane?intersection or turning.??
My dilemma. i have been unable to find any body shop in Alabama who is willing to undertake repair of my vehicle. I understand. It has become a classic due to age, and an antique. Shops today do not much know how to work on these all metal vehicles. Most don't have the older mechanics that know what to do with this thing. Shops can't get body parts readily. So, I have to go out of state. And I found a shop south of Tampa Bay in Florida capable and competent to?do the job and they have the resources on site. Problem is they are 600 miles from me. Does anyone know of any other competent shop in the southeast that can repair a vanagon? The shop in Florida was just about in the center of Hurricane?Milton when it came ashore. They may have been wiped out. In any case my insurance company is kicking over the distance and cost of getting my van there and back. Any opinions there. I sure?can't drive it that?far.. I just had a major life changing surgery.?
Any input on these matters is appreciated.?

You could try the Vanalert app. https://vanalert.com/

Thanks John! This is great, very helpful. I confess however my feeble little tiny brain remembers a spreadsheet or maybe just a list in a word document. But no matter, this is terrific, and I will “convert” it to a handy dandy reference doc. ? I just saw the Vanalert app page, that also looks really promising, going through it now. ? THANKS!! ? The VanAlert app and it's list of Vanagon repair shops is good. Here's another list:
?
Also, IIRC, the OP wanted references to shops that do work on Subaru conversions. I live in the Sana Cruz area, so if you find yourself in my digs, there are 2 shops that I can recommend:
?
Vivid Vans
http://www.vividvans.com/
831 201 4894
?
* Good for all things Westy and Suby!
?
Rick's Auto Shop (831) 475-2470
?
* Good for all things Suby engine related.

Vivid used to be up here in BC too. They were not known for being particularly good about getting repairs done on time and also they’d take piles of money upfront and there was some reports of people getting ripped off etc.
I’ve met the guy who owns it and he was always cool to me, just saying it didn’t end well up here?
