Kennedy kit catalytic converter

开云体育

Hi everyone. I’m about to call the smog referee to plead my case around catalytic converter replacement. ?I’ll let everyone know how it goes.?

These are the facts of the case - if anyone has been down this path feel free to comment:

  • The catalytic converter on my 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia Subaru conversion is not the correct catalytic converter, and it is burned out
  • The Subaru engine conversion uses the Kennedy Engineered kit, which is approved by the Air Resources Board (Executive Order D-428-3). The EO specifies “one AirTek, Inc. (dba Catco) catalytic converter, part number 58834”
  • This catalytic converter is no longer obtainable (as per catalytic converter specialist at Marco Muffler)
  • Challenge: find a catalytic converter that can be used in place of the AirTek/Catco 58834 catalytic converter.

I’m curious to know if this is accurate, in the sense that the AirTek, Inc. (dba Catco) catalytic converter is no longer obtainable.?

Thanks

Okay, now we’re getting somewhere. I called Kennedy Engineering. The Executive Order that I have (D-428-3) has been updated??(D-428-5). ?Kennedy is sending me the updated EO, along with pricing for the correct catalytic converter. ?I’ll post on this once I get it resolved.

Had the same problem had the cat replaced bought the cat from rock auto for less that $400. Kennedy sells cat for over $500. I believe the cat is copco brand. Solve the problem.

I reached out to Kennedy. There is a new EO that specifies the Walker 81101 catalytic converter. Mine is being shipped - hope to have it installed next week.?

I believe that for CA the KEP catalytic converter is the Walker cat, which you can get from KEP. I decided to get the same cat from SCP () especially since I wanted to weld flanges for a replacement muffler. The stamp on KEP's and SCP's cat is the same, so it refers to the same ARB EO, and should be no problem with BAR.

I just replaced my catalytic converter with the Walker, purchased directly from Kennedy. They were wonderful to deal with, and prompt. I received a copy of the executive order and the plate that comes with it. Passed smog with no problems at Autotek in the Sacramento area.?

Happy New Year?
