High and sticky RPM
Hey everyone, I am reaching out because I am really getting stuck.? I did my EJ25 conversion and my motor runs!.?
But my van has and extremely high idle at 2000 and if you increase the RPMs they never go back down.? So if I throttle it will jump up to 3000 and not come back down, I have to go turn off the motor.? What I have done so far is check the cables for sticking.? I took apart the TPS sensor and checked it.? I took apart the IAC sensor and checked it.??
All the sensors are brand new, I replaced everything during the installation.? ?I also cleaned the entire throttle body.??
I hooked up the ODB2 reader and I do get red on CAT and O2S but it also says No Data is Stored on Vehicles Computer.??
My next step is to adjust the .5 on the TPS. ?Maybe a vacuum leak?? Anyone got any good ways to look for leaks? |
Vacuum leaks are notorious causes for high idle. however if its erratic, surging high idle it could be a sensor or wiring in harness has a short, bad connect. You can always try fidgeting/wiggling the harness while it is running? to see if the idle changes. Then you can isolate it to wiring issue. Sean G 87 Syncro, 2000 2.5 Subie

开云体育VSS on Autoventures board uses tach signal to emulate VSS for computer. ?Run a real VSS and you will also be able to us OBD2 aftermarket computers for real-time speed and data. ?

I had similar issues with hanging idles. Remove the vss wires from the interface board and see if it cleans up your idle issues. I had to mount a cv style VSS for my engine to run right.

So my battle update for the day...
I started checking for leaks, spraying carb cleaner everywhere.? Nothing really changed.? I mess around with all the hoses and wiring, specially the grounds and nothing changed in the RPM. I thought I had a smoking gun, when tuning the TPS I could not get the voltage to .5v, highest it would go was .1!? I put the original TPS in unit and it worked and I was able to tune to .5V.? I disconnected the ground on batter and restarted.?? The good news is that instead of racing right to 3000 RPM it starts out at about 1800.? After a couple minutes it seems to want to drop the RPM but it then starts surging.? Low to High, low to high.? Oddly when it starts surging I get a bit of blue smoke out the exhaust which does not happen when the RPMs are constant.?? The ODB2 Sensor only has red for O2S and CAT.? I also go a code for P1143.? (Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input).? Googling all this now.?? |

So we had a few hours of sunshine today in MI, although in the 30s but I took full advantage. ?Willrburkett You nailed it. ?I removed the VSS signal from the ECU. ?First the RPM was pretty high, 2300, then leveled off to 1800, then bam down to about 1K and purred like a kitten. ?I let it warm and started it a few times. ?Seemed to get better and better so I took it out of the garage for the first time in almost 3 years. ?Amazing feeling. ?Drove GREAT! ?Drove up and down the street about 20 times. ?
So it runs great driving up and sown the street with out the VSS, but I did buy the GoWesty cruise control that has a VSS. ?What Ill do is use that VSS and stick a relay in the output to split 12V signal to the CC and 5V to the ECU. ? So that's all the great news. ?But I can see that I got some bugs to work out.? My temp gauge acts really funny, it seem to work then pegs with the flashing light. ?I checked the reader and it says the temp was in the 190's so I don't think I am really overheating.? I get a concerning amount of blue smoke out of the exhaust when I start up. ? I also get some fluid out of the exhaust when I start too. ? The CAT and O2S are Red, I heard they may go green when it warms up, but not dice. ? Getting P1507 and P1143 codes stored. ? Red on the Dash for battery and OXS (do I need to reset the OXS with that weird switch by the spare tire?) My 4x4 actuator light is always on. ?The 4x4 seems to work fine, but the light never goes off. ? Thanks everyone for the help everyone. ?Still got some work to do but wow what a milestone. ? |
You need a 23-30 ohm resistor inline if using the Subaru temp sender with the VW gauge. 27ohms put the needle just above the LED for mine. Disconnect the OXS counter. Run some upper cylinder cleaner or Seafoam through it.and fresh gas then recheck codes. Red on the alt dash light means it's not charging. What is? your alternator wiring? Cat and O2 sensor are red then maybe go green? What does that mean?
|
I will add the resistor today. ?I can find that in my pile of electronics pieces. ?
My OXS and CAT sensors are brand new. ?My gas is two years old though. ? "Cat and O2 sensor are red then maybe go green? What does that mean?" ?I read in another post that when things heat up after the first startup peoples CAT and O2S sensors turn green instead of Red, but mine are not. ? I will disconnect and reconnect my connectors, maybe I went a little too crazy with the dielectric grease. ? The Alternator wiring goes to the subaru harness. ?I will review the paperwork but I remember talking to AutoVentures about it and when I was connecting that and it appeared all correct. ? Oddly, getting some leaks now that I left it outside. ?My engine drain plug and a T coolant. ?Ill tighten those up.? |
