Forum Guidelines - Update

Thanks to everyone that provided feedback on my query regarding expanding the groups message scope.

I’ve had a speak with Mr. Shields to ensure that we both are in alignment on broadening the forum topic scope. We’ve decided against allowing topics which are thoroughly discussed in other forums (tires, brakes, suspension).

Off topic messages will be removed from the group and, where possible, the author notified.

?

Allowed:

Performance & Maintenance of the Subaru Engine (JDM or USDM) and Drivetrain of Subied Vanagons.

Components that are NECESSARY to run the engine and deliver it’s power to the ground.?

?

Off Topic:

- CV joints, brakes, tires, wheels

- HVAC (heater, air conditioning)

- Instrument cluster mods/upgrades

- Inverters, batteries, lighting

- Any general Vanagon upgrades

?

Flames, disparaging comments

Topic highjacking (starting a new topic by replying to an existing, unrelated topic)

Posts without identification of year/model of engine and vehicle

Using forum messages to contact another forum user (use direct email)

What about using parts from the donor car to complete/enhance the conversion?? In particular, the cruise control from a '93 Legacy into an '87 Wolfsburg?

? Or using the Subie power window switches?

Brent & Tom

Thanks much for availing the Time & Effort to make this Evolution Possible ~

All looks good to Me Except that Wheel & Tire info, especially Tire Size (Outside Dia)

are an important factor in Getting Power To The Ground ~ They are essentially, part

of the Gearing of the Drive Train & Can/Do have a Big Impact on a Subied Vanagons

Ability to Perform @ Optimum >> Please Consider ~

??? ??????????????????? LarryA

????????? IMHO ~ Neither of those Items have any Impact on the Main Reason that we

Convert Our Vanagons to Subaru Power & so Therefore I would deem them OffTopic ~

?????????? Reiteration from My Request Post >

Any Topic that Pertains Directly to the Suby Conversions ability to improve Our Vans

contributions to Our VanLives ~

I had mentioned this before, but if you do a later engine conversion like 2015 forester with CANBus you need to use the Subaru Instrument Cluster. There is a CANBus computer in it that has to be there and should be ON-Topic.

Certainly does seem to qualify it as OnTopic? ~? We may find that there are some "Per Case" exceptions to the General GuideLines that may need to be allowed ~

I'm going to have to say that in that case, the Subaru instrument cluster in necessary to run the engine?? and honestly alot of engines before 2015 need CANbus based information to run correctly.

Thanks folks for some valuable feedback.
Ive removed several messages that did not contain value.?

I’ll follow up with slight amendments to allowable content.
best,
