You could probably use more rotating mass, not less. Craig --- On Sat, 5/5/12, Matt <mattsewalson@...> wrote:

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on aluminum crank pulley. A co worker recommended I get one because of weight and increase in horse power. if there is any difference .....it will be .002 % ( point zero zero 2 percent ) increase. a lighter mass in the crankshaft assembly doesn't actually increase hp .. it can make acceleration occur more easily due to less crank mass to get spinning faster, but does not 'produce power' by itself. heck ..flywheel mass is a good thing .. smoothes things out, helps an engine maintain speed on a grade,. but in a big van .. by itself .. I wouldn't expect much difference. They look cool though .. and are a good way to get rid of 60 to 80 bucks. perhaps in a performance car with other performance goodies.. but on a stock subaru engine pushing a big vanagon .. not gonna make much difference I don't think. scott On 5/5/2012 8:47 PM, Matt wrote:
