Lots of good advice and options above. FWIW, we have an OBD2 Scan Gauge mounted in a clever little 3D-printed holder from GoWesty that clips on the dashboard above the steering column. We also added a VW sensor port in the Subaru cooling loop that feeds the temp gauge in the instrument panel. Didn't try it, but I believe a 28 ohm resistor in series with the Subaru temp sensor feed will drive the VW temp gauge pretty reliably.?
