Hi folks, Recently I began getting updated chapters for a couple of stories via fictionhunt..given fanfiction.net issues I personally experience. However, all links, even when searched via google go to twitter now. I am not on twitter meaning I cannot read the associated message. Anyone have an idea what may be happening?
Thanks, Karen

It actually sounds like you might have some malware in your operating system somewhere. For a while, any link I clicked on redirected me to different places depending on where they were supposed to send me. And the websites that I wanted to go to were unreachable. Eventually, I had to reinstall my copy of Windows thereby wiping my hard drive of any malicious content. Then I got a VPN service and I haven¡¯t had an issue since. ? Regards, Derek ? ? That's kinda what I've
been thinking. You can try a better anti-virus (even a free one)
or a stand-alone one that boots from CD/DVD or USB. Then follow up
with Malwarebytes. If that doesn't do it, it's time to nuke your
drive and start again.
Too bad none of us live close enough to help. I know I'd be glad
to.

I am unsure how this idea relates to something established via google searches. Our offices, which have virus protection managed by dreamhost, are not reporting issues of this kind in any way. However the google I just managed produced a twitter post indicating that fictionhunt is having hardware issues. So, even with the off topic ideas, I got my answer. Thanks, Karen

Sorry, I do appreciate the idea, even if not even close to the issue. speaking personally I have been using computers for decades, and have never gotten infected even once. Your offers are kind, but I cannot speak to your experiences with your machines, save that they are not my machines.

I run an infrastructure IT team, and have access to remote control tools.? If needed, I'd be happy to help clean up some malware off one of your computers.

I am on twitter and found (copied directly from twitter) I don't know if this will answer any of your questions but I think the site is dead now
If nothing will work we are still going to revive . In what shape and form we don¡¯t know.
Just confirmed: no way to recover drives. Guys, gals and everyone else, it means, that fictionhunt is officially DEAD. Will try to determine what could be done.
|
A few more of their recent tweets tells the story¡
Oh, super bad news everyone. It appears that hard drives with all fanfics are dead. We will attempt to restore data, but for now fictionhunt is down, and we have no idea if it will be possible to get it back. More news later.
We had two drives - one main, one for backups. Somehow both died at the same time. Magic? Quantum fluctuations? Conspiracy? Just some random thing?

We are still going to try some stuff to save at least something. But don¡¯t hold your breath.
Clones of the dead drives are on the way. It will take around 2-3 days to get them, after that we will attempt to revive at least some data.
24-28 hours till we get cloned drives.

If it hasn't come up already, check your browser extensions to make sure you've haven¡¯t installed any new browser helpers that may be redirecting your DNS requests. This can also help with coupon app extensions etc. I recommend installing the duck duck go browser search extension into your Chrome, Edge or Firefox browser - it doesn¡¯t feed the search databases.

I hope this information helps someone, it has nothing to do with my question. the site is sending people to their twitter feed in an effort to keep them informed. Sorry, I do not recall who was having redirect issues, but hopefully they find your wisdom useful for their computers.

Wow, that's REALLY terrible backup policies.? Only two drives?? No onsite backups?? Ouch - this is what happens when amateurs run the show. :(
Too bad.? I hope they're able to get things sorted out.

Looks like as of 23 hours ago, they have new drives with the old stuff on it, and they are transfering data to revive the site.
Last tweet: @fictionhunt: Initiated data transfer, process is very slow and could take 2 days or more. But it seems to be working! All the old fanfics should be there.

Thanks Katy, Just further proof that a site owner forwarding users to the site twitter feed, is not a bug on the user's computer. Still cannot follow that logic smiles. Kare
