The ministry gets first claim on the deceased's assets and has for centuries kept their belongings. Harry (or Sirius) gets the belonging to come back to the heirs in boxes, and I think the boxes walk. They appear in Hogwarts next to the heirs.

There is a crystal? tower involved with a magical pool. Tower intruders are turned into statues, including Voldemort. The Ministry attacks the tower with devices from the DoM but has to retreat.
