Did fanfiction.net go bye-bye?
开云体育For some reason, there is no longer a DNS entry for them and hasn't been for a couple of days. A work-around is to either use their app, or manually add an entry for them in your computer's hosts file. Details are in a thread on the CaerAzkaban group. For once, it's not their fault. Probably. Hi. I'm getting the same error, glad I'm not the only one. I will only use it for reading and PM's now, not updating my story on there, as per an announcement?I made over there before the site went down not long ago. Thanks. From Michael. It's been down for between 24 to 48 hours depending on where you live, they are supposedly working on it to get it back up. The suggestion to? edit hosts file will get it back working. Tommy British by birth, Scottish by the grace of God www.stopthetraffik.org

In theory, just where does one edit the host file?

is it in a browser preference? Mine are Linux based. Karen On Sat, 13 Jul 2024, tumshie1960 via groups.io wrote:

Hey All,
This is the post I saw from Gustav Persson on Caer, hope this helps, it explained it best from their thread IMO; Open notepad as administrator. Go to the dialogue and open "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" Add the following line at the bottom. 104.18.19.242??(??) Save the file. You should now be able to access FFN This should only be temporary, what you are doing is over riding the lookup that a DNS server normally gives for where FFN is located on the internet (the IP address). If FFN in the future moves to another IP address and you still have this line in your hosts file your browser will try to access FFN on an IP that is incorrect. So my suggestion is that you delete the line when FFN is up and working again via DNS lookup. |
It works, I used it and have access to ff.net Tommy British by birth, Scottish by the grace of God www.stopthetraffik.org

On Linux you can put that into /etc/hosts (which has the same name as on Windows as both took the idea and name from BSD afaik).

Here is a solution that works. This is for windows,
this might work on others depending on how you deal with hosts.
?
If ff.net still isn't working for you on
windows,
Open admin command prompt Enter the following into the window, then exit out and try to go to the site again. echo 104.18.18.242 >>%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts ?
?
