Sadly I as well am having the missing chapters problem. :(

I think it's a Cloudflare thing. I can usually wait a couple of hours (or sometimes more) and it will finally work. Try messing with the page delay settings as well.

I just grit my teeth and download the missing chapters as a separate action. If 23-35 are missing just download the missing ones. Sometimes that action is also incomplete and I have to download 31-35, but eventually I can get the entire story. Just be sure to modify the file name for each action so you don't overwrite earlier actions.

You can also move the file rather than changing the name as you re-download to get missing chapters.

speaking personally?
Were I dealing with this issue, I would do two things.
first, let the writer know that readers who want to enjoy their works off line are not getting the chance, then encourage them to create an ao3 account.
second, contact one of the companies advertising on ffn, telling them that the admin is discouraging traffic by deciding every reader is a criminal.
third write to dev@...
Which I believe is the developer's email for them now, point out the problem, and ask if it is going to be fixed.
..but that is me, so long as you work around things instead of giving the admin motivation to fix things, nothing changes.
Just my thoughts,

The first one may do something but the second and third really won't.

Firstly, the advertisers mainky just use adsense, and so they don't even know they are going .

Secondly, that you can't download is not an accident, but by design, the developers of have tried to stop downloading and copying for years, and this is just their current step in doing so.?

FFN is a "free" site where we can read (online) a lot of fan written stories.

Since FFN decided to monetize their site by loading it up with ads, they have a strong incentive to prevent readers from downloading stories to read offline.? Why?? They only make money from ads when a reader clicks on an ad.? If you read it offline, clicking on any ad does not count for them (especially if your downloader excludes the ads!)

?

However, ffn also has forums and communities.
further, ao3 allows for downloading, even without a program, raising millions in funding on a regular basis...and they are free as well.

FFN does have it's own smartphone app, they don't seem to bother advertising its existence on their website. It doesn't seem to include intrusive adverts (yet).

I'm not terribly impressed, while it allows for (autoupdated) story downloads to my phone without ads, a recent (fixed) update made it impossible to read downloaded? stories for nearly a week.

I find the UI a bit awkward for both reading (far too easy to change chapters instead of scrolling) and finding stories, both in my library and browsing the website.

There's the usual difficulties of the much smaller screen of a smartphone compared to a kindle etc, such as the compromise between readable font size and having enough words on screen that I'm not having to scroll every few seconds.

Everyone keeps stating that ffn does not want downloading. Still, I am told their mobile app allows for downloading, without ads.
can anyone point to a blog post where, in their own words, administrators state they wish to stop downloading?
As for advertisers not knowing where their ads are going, I dare say that is less true these days, as they need to keep track of markets.
