new ffn problem.

And I imagine I will not be the only person impacted.
When following Plot's link for a story, I was presented with a cloud related message from ffn.
My hope was that it was link specific, but now every single m.ffn bookmark I have is gone.
The request asks for verification, but for my combination of tools provides no way to confirm I am a human.
Anyone else getting this?
Kare

Perhaps related to a problem I noted today when using FanfictionDownloader. It only returns an empty file. I suppose FFN made some update last night to further impede users.

I've already implemented a fix that resolves the issue for FanFictionDownloader. I hope to finalise it tomorrow at least for windows and Linux version - the mac build is a bit...complicated...

Granted, that is of no help for me personally. still, I am told on another list that ffn suffered a major major hack which is why downloaders of all types are failing.
You might want to wait until the site is fully functional before incorporating fixes for those using your program.

As a Mac user I deeply appreciate you going to the trouble to make sure I have access to FanFictionDownloader.?

@Raimond Eisele

I thought you were dead. ... You're actually alive!O_O Wow... Good.^_^

If you're still alive, and making fixes, could you fix 0.8.13? It's the last version I can use. I'm stuck using a Win XP computer. And no way to change that for the foreseeable future. And later versions DO NOT work on XP.

How come you never answer your site's message board? It's full of spam. That's why I thought you were dead.

Hope you can fix 0.8.13, or make new versions that work on XP as well.

Gives Raimond a BIG hug.

Thankyou.

Just FYI, FicLab does not seem to be impacted.

When I was reading on ffn on my cellphone yesterday, I noticed the desktop mode was no longer working.

fanfictiondownloader.net won't open on my cell phone ATM . It's a samsung android if that helps. I was hoping FFD would work on android.

Virus-free.

0.9.2 does not work on my PC running 32-bit Windows 7

Have you stopped support for Windows 7? Or is it only for 64-bit systems?

Hmm, I didn't intend to support only 64 bit, but very likely that was an automated setting.

I'll try to build a 32 bit version in the evening, but no promis that it'll be online this evening.

By the way: I got a single report that 0.9.2 is not working with long stories and the assumption was that it's caused by a captcha shown on ff.net. Can one of you confirm that captchas are now shown on ff.net? That would be really depressing and likely take longer to fix.

Captchas on ff.net are not showing for me, have never shown for me on any browser that I can use.

As I usually prefer Linux, I tried the Windows port on my only remaining Win10 machine. I got a captcha when going from an author page to a story, but not when going directly to a story (from Google). They stopped after I logged in.

As far as long stories go, I used RobSt's Harry Crow () at 737k words as an experiment. When not logged in, it only grabbed 52/106 chapters. Trying again (after logging in) it got 104/106 chapters. I don't know if logging made a difference or not.

I'll try to bring another Windows box up tomorrow to see if the difference is in the login and will try the Linux port when available.

Mike

Seems to be working on Win 7-64 from being logged in.

Since I'm never logged out, I couldn't tell you if there are Capchas
for unlogged in users.

I'm testing with Taylor Varga (FFN Version) with 393 chapters and over 1 Million words.
Note that the SV version is at 580 chapters with 1.9 Million words.

I am testing with TV while logged in, but I will also do a test while logged out using a smaller fic to see if there is any difference in number of chapters grabbed.

The FFD version I downloaded today shows the correct number of chapters (1 to 393) in the boxes.
OK, the download itself took about 10 minutes and the HTML file shows all the indicated chapters.

One thing I have noted is that the conversion to PDF does takes exponentially longer as the size of the fic increases.
That might just be down to problems in whatever converter process/plugin is being used.
For example, a single large chapter will normally take about 30-60 seconds to convert while TV's 393 chapters has taken over three hours so far and is still going.

OK, the conversion of TV failed with an 'Error 1' overnight.

Other fics seems to be coming out OK and converting with no problems.

I think the problems with FFD skipping chapters may have just been hiccups on FFN's end.

Had the same initial results downloading Harry Crow first getting only 52 chapters. Tried again this time got only 102.

Restarted ffdl and tried Harry Crow again. This time instead of clicking "Check & Download", I clicked "Check" first, looked at the UI and saw it finding 106 chapters then clicked "Download fanfiction" and got all 106.

Tried a different fic () with 102 chapters got all 102.

One thing I did notice is that ffdl gets about 1 chapter per second of a fic when downloading correctly, if the chapter count goes faster than that it is only getting that chapter titles.

All of the above was done without being logged in to ff.net

No captcha is presented at all, and many cannot solve them regardless.
as stated, a downloader cannot address my issue, although I am happy it works for you.
