Richard Grubb & Associates (RGA) is seeking an archaeological field director for its Tennessee Branch Office in Nashville. Applicants should be available to travel daily to project sites as necessary for fieldwork duties. Projects will be located primarily in Tennessee and the Mid-South/Southeastern region, but also in other parts of the U.S. and its territories. Prior work experience in Tennessee and the Mid-South region is preferred but not required.?

Field Director responsibilities include:?

  • Plan, organize, and manage archaeological surveys, site recordation, monitoring, and other fieldwork duties?
  • Supervise crews on a day-to-day basis in all phases of a project?
  • Communicate with project managers/principal investigators to ensure that projects are performed within budget and meet project schedules?
  • Review and maintain quality control of all field data?
  • Assist with technical reports under the guidance of the Principal Investigator?

Qualified applicants must possess:?

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field?is required
  • Communication and problem-solving skills?
  • Supervisory field (crew chief/field director) experience in Cultural Resources Management is preferred
  • Experience in identifying, documenting, and evaluating pre-contact and historic artifacts, cultural features, and archaeological sites?
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation?
  • Ability and willingness to travel?at least 70% of the time?
  • Experience using a Trimble Geo7x/or similar is preferred?
  • The position requires the candidate to traverse up to 10 miles per day for fieldwork and frequently moves equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.?

This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position, and compensation includes a complete benefits package. This salary range is dependent upon experience and is expected to be between $54,000-68,000.?RGA prefers that the candidate be based within Middle Tennessee or the surrounding region. A hybrid work schedule is negotiable.?
