We are currently searching for candidates for the following positions:



1. Temporary Curatorial Assistant in Archaeology - Requisition Number 1016


Duties & Responsibilities:

Assists in the compilation and organization of information pertaining
to human remains and associated funerary objects from the Southeastern
United States. Assists in correspondence with Southeastern tribes.
Assists with inventory production of modern/historic remains, including
data entry, library research, and state archaeological contacts. Drafts
reports of inventory completion. Keeps tracking system/correspondence
records of tribal files up to date. Other work as required, including
internal and external requests for information.


Required Education, Experience, Skills:

B.A. with major in anthropology or archaeology; familiarity with
artifact types, basic culture histories and geography of Southeast
preferred. 3-5 years experience in archaeology/museum work, Southeast
specialization. Ability to collect archaeological and ethnohistoric
information from a wide variety of sources, and attention to detail
must be demonstrated. Experience with inventory production under NAGPRA
preferable. Excellent computer skills, knowledge of relational
databases essential. This is a one-year position.

internal and external requests for information.


Required Education, Experience, Skills:

3. Osteologist - Requisition Number 1008


Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides an osteological assessment of human remains from diverse
regions within the United States. Provides an element by element
account for human remains as well as an assessment of sex, age,
biological affinity, and any other relevant biological attributes for
each individual to assist the museum in efforts to comply with the
Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Enters
collected osteological data into a relational database and edits
osteological records. Prepares summary reports. Works with museum
archaeologists and participates in consultations with Native American
groups

concerning human remains. Assists with visiting researchers as
required.


Required Education, Experience, Skills:

Master's or equivalent degree in physical anthropology or related field
preferred and at least one year of osteological experience. Ability to
assess biological affinity of human remains essential. Knowledge of
common North American mammalian fauna a plus. Previous experience with
large computer databases helpful. Must have effective and sensitive
oral and written communication skills and be able to work closely with
others in a laboratory environment. This is aone-year position.



4 and 5. Archaeological Cataloguer - two positions - Requisition
Numbers 1047 and 1048


Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs tasks necessary to complete the physical inventory of the
archaeological collections from North America. Inventories and labels
uncatalogued artifacts. Performs object-related database entry.
Reorganizes collections in storage, including any necessary rehousing.
Performs clerical functions connected with the physical inventory of
objects. Assists the Catalogue Verifier and performs related research
as required. Performs related duties as required.


Required Education, Experience, Skills:

B.A. in anthropology preferred, with emphasis in North American
archaeology. Familiarity with museum cataloguing procedures and
inventory methods and/or laboratory processing of artifacts required.
Ability to maintain high and constant descriptive standards of
archaeological collections required. Knowledge of relational database
software highly preferred. Ability to handle fragile, irreplaceable
objects in keeping with museum standards. Archaeological experience
preferred.



6 and 7. Catalogue Verifier - two positions - Requisition Numbers 1049
and 1050


Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs tasks necessary to complete the electronic catalogue of the
archaeological collections from North America. Verifies and researchs
information in the museum database by reviewing pertinent documentation
such as ledger entries, accession records, archives, and published
sources. Enters data and corrections into museum database. Researches
and resolves problematic data on a case-to-case basis. Performs
clerical functions connected with the creation and maintenance of the
catalogue. Assists the Archaeological Cataloguer as required. Performs
other duties as required.


Required Education, Experience, Skills:

B.A. in anthropology or related field preferred, familiarity with North
American archaeology helpful. Knowledge of museum collections
management systems and relational databases highly preferred.
Familiarity with museum cataloguing procedures and descriptive
standards for museum object collections preferred. Ability to work
independently and with large amounts of data accurately required.
