Position: ARCHEOLOGIST
GS-0193-09/09
Salary: $15.82 per hour - $15.82 per hour

Duty Location: 2 vacancies at SHERIDAN, WY
2 vacancies at LOVELL, WY
Applications will be accepted from:
Open to all qualified persons.
Major Duties: Incumbent performs archeological surveys.
Conducts field
reconnaissance searches in areas planned for such activities as
timber
harvesting, wildlife habitat improvement, road construction, and
recreational
development. Reports finding and prepares recommendations to be
incorporated
in environmental analysis reports. Conducts field searches,
identifies and
marks archeological sites, prepares site location maps, records
findings,
photographs artifact findings, and prepares sites sketches as
necessary.
Conducts field investigations as part of a forest-wide
classification and
protection program to be incorporated in long-term resource
management plans.
Qualifications Required:
Applicants must meet qualification standards by the closing date
of this
announcement as described in the U.S. Office of Personnel
Management
Qualification Standards of General Schedule positions.
Basic requirements: A four year degree that included 3 semester
hours each in
the following course areas: - History of Archeology
-Archeology of a major geographical area such as North
America of
Africa
- Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites
in a specific
part or portion of a major geo
graphical area to acquire or develop a
foundation for
regional specialization for professional
development
-Theory and methods of archeology
-Archeological field school
AND
Six semester hours of related course work in geography, geology,
or cultural
geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology;
environmental
studies; scientific writing ; and surveying.
AND
Archeological field school.
PLUS
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the
GS-7 level; OR 2
years of progressively higher level graduate education leading
to a master's
degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that provided
the knowledge,
skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
A combination of graduate education and experience may be
qualifying.
Basis of Rating:
Panel members or a personnel specialist will evaluate each
candidate's
qualifications including experience, performance, awards,
training, and
education.
Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule:
Temporary employment not to exceed one year.
