Field Archaeologist (Mitigation)- Georgia (Statewide)- NV5


 

NV5 is seeking a full-time Project Archaeologist for our Alpharetta, Georgia office. This position will primarily be responsible for conducting day-to-day archaeological investigations, including Data Recovery and Construction Monitoring, on an on-going State-wide Mitigation Contract. Fieldwork at Phase I Survey or Phase II Testing/Assessment level may also be required. The archaeologist will assist in the identification, evaluation and excavation of archaeological sites and will complete project tasks within deadlines and budgets. Location flexibility may be possible for the preferred candidate; one or more positions may be filled through this announcement.

The Project Archaeologist position may include travel. both local and overnight, throughout the Southeastern U. S., but will primarily support NV5 clients in the state of Georgia.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field
  • Current standing member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA), RPA-eligible, and/or qualified archaeologist under the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications for Archaeology (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience as an archaeological field director or project manager
  • Experience in Southeast U.S.
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • DOT and/or energy-related (FERC and/or Corps-regulated pipelines, transmission lines, etc.) experience
  • Experience in conducting Native American consultation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software
  • Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment to assist with site boundary delineations

Work environment and physical demand of this position

  • Fieldwork may include exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Fieldwork will involve long term standing, walking, and hand excavation as well as include common hazards at project sites.
  • Fieldwork may require work in remote locations, often out-of-sight of other crew members
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
  • Weekend, overtime work or travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.

NV5 is seeking up to five Temporary Full- time archaeological Field Technicians to work out of our Alpharetta, Georgia office.? This position will primarily be responsible for conducting day-to-day archaeological Data Recovery excavations on an on-going State-wide Mitigation Contract. Fieldwork at Phase I Survey or Phase II Testing/Assessment level may also be required. This position is considered entry level, and hourly. Hourly roles are intended to be flexible in schedule, and as needed; students who have completed their archaeological fieldschool training are encouraged to apply.

The Field Technician position may include travel. both local and overnight, throughout the Southeastern U. S. Hourly technicians will primarily support NV5 clients in the state of Georgia. The Field Technician reports to the Field Director, Project Archaeologist (Project Manager), or Senior Archaeologist (Principal Investigator), as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

????????????? Completion of an archaeological field school, required

????????????? Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field, preferred

????????????? Georgia-residents preferred, but all qualified candidates will be considered

????????????? Some knowledge of state and federal historic preservation regulations

????????????? Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment/GIS software, desired

????????????? Excellent communication skills

????????????? Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment
